ga z87x d3h no onboard video, no pci 8x

I am wondering if this board is faulty and needs to be returned. I have a working graphics card, but it only works in the 16x slot. If I have no card installed and try use the ivga I get one long beep and three short beeps. Also, on power-up, the system seems to restart once or twice before going to post. I have reset the cmos and loaded optimized defaults but can only get video through the 16x port. I did try a gpu card that I now know to be faulty - could this have damaged the motherboard? And is there any reason for the board to behave as described other than it being faulty?

Forgot to mention that I'm running an i5 4760k, and that ivga was working until I tried using the defunct gpu card mentioned above

Yes if this all started after you tried that card than the card might did something to the board or the CPU.

You really don't have a video controller like the older boards do. The video is in the CPU.

Can you have the CPU tested or try it in another board.

Here are the Beep Codes. Plus when was the last you clean in side your computer?

I don't have any means of testing the cpu. I doubt it's damaged as it is brand new and I'm using a seasonic x850 which is pretty stable.and the pc has just been assembled, so there is no dust present. The beep code indicates vga failure. If resetting the cmos doesn't fix it, and I get video output from the pci-e slot I can only assume that the motherboard is faulty.

Also, when I insyall the drivers from the accompanying disc, the system asks for a redtart and then windows encounters a problem and has to restart.

Just understand what I'm saying you don't have a on board graphics chip. The chip is now in the CPU. It has been this way from the 1155 3rd gen CPU.

Yes you have a DVI, VGA, & HDMI connection. But that is all they are. The Graphics comes from the CPU. That is why I ask about the CPU.

Just couldn't try with a graphics card yet since the only one I have is built into another system and way too long for my HTPC to install without having to take have chassis apart.
Will however do so in next couple of days and let you know about result.

OH: maybe worth noting: my system was / is brand new - I never tried any damaged part, so maybe it's not your fault after all...
