X58A-UD3R rev2.0 USB problem

Hi

sometimes when booting up, none of my USB ports seem to work. I've no keyboard or mouse then, pluggin them in other port not works.
All I can do is reset or push the power button some secs to shut off. After reboot they just work again.
I've only had this happen around 5-6x I think since I had the last problem and reinstaled everything.. only the passed days it occured 3x again so I wondering if this is a coming up problem. Something I could check that causes this to happen?

If you require USB support before Windows has loaded the drivers for it then you must enable USB Legacy Devices and USB Legacy Storage (or similar naming) in the BIOS. That will then load the drivers for it right from ther start.

  The only other thing I could add is check if you have any little yellow gremlins in device manager and /or update any drivers you think may be applicable.

I view this situation in my home.

So i make a change in bios like said Dark Mantis.

Sometimes I have a USB keyboard that does not at boot, or the Post, but just functional at the Windows logon page.

So now i use a PS/2 keyboard, if a motherboard have a connector.
For me, is a best for go to Bios and on Emergency situation like CTRL ALT DELETE or CTRL-BREAK.

Yes often a PS2 is a real life saver when it comes to using a keyboard during boot or in the BIOS etc . Always worth keeping one just for that.

Well, I had some few time.. but the problem still there.
Quite frequently with cold boot.

But I checked the BIOS settings you suggested, the keyboard stood correct, the mouse not. Only, now I start to doubt it is the USB that fails but might be my computer just freezes.
Normally right after bootup my keyb&mouse seem to fall out, the light of G15 keyb and mouse fell out and I couldn't do anything but reset. Now last the light of keyb didn't fall out but still nothing seem to works, no keyb, no mouse. Then after I noticed the freezing when I was quick in starting up a prog. Then it freezed during it was loading prog, so I think it's not the USB but the computer that freezes or locks or hangs soon after it started up cold.
After resetting it just starts normal.

Now soon when I have some more free time I finally can open up my case again to go rearrange my cabling and add some hardware... thinking if I should maybe reinstall everything after. I finally received my order, some extra hard drives and a Hightpoint Rocketraid 620 to connect the 6GBs hd's too.
Though I'm not sure can you run OS drive from the rocketraid or is it just to connect storage drives too?

I can boot OS ok from add on card on single drives. I use plug in drives so use add
on card (PCIe) or Intel connector. Found best results from 2nd x16 slot even though
card is only PCIe x1 Manhatten.

I had quite a few problems with USB on the X58A. My solution was to disable USB 3
& no driver installed. Did the same with Marvell ports & no driver. Though my PCIe
card has Marvell chip got better drive results without driver. The 620 is really only
suitable for one drive. If more needed better off with 640 with 2 chips.

Though I did not have boot problems found that USB 2 only worked at half speed.
Also found that one version of Acronis True Image knocked down USB 2 speed yet
version works without problem on other PCs.

I restarted with clean install plus the above driver omissions, though it shows driver
missing in device manager still get better even ATTO drive score on SSD.

Great! I started to doubt about the box only reads about better storage performance but not that OS disk could connect to it.
I can't wait to be 2 days free and work on the computer!!
I also got a second Spinpoint F3 1TB, still doubting if I will put in raid or not. Actually wanted to get a second WD 640GB but I couldn't find them anymore. And such a Samsung  M3 series 2TB USB 3. Transfering from my F3 went around 70-120MBs. I've not really data on my other drives to transfer, have to still check how fast tranfer go from SSD to USB3.

Keep you updated when I have time to work on it. Also have to search me behind that damned problem computer freezes with first boot of the day.

Is it possible to install an operating system directly to an array or hard disk attached to the Host Adapter card?
Yes, this is possible for Windows operating systems, Linux distributions, and FreeBSD.
However, this is not currently possible on Mac platforms - our host adapter products are not recognized as bootable devices, and can only be used for storage purposes.

How do I configure my system to boot from the host adapter card?

Check your motherboard's BIOS settings menu - make sure the Host Adapter has been selected as a boot device.
Most will classify the card as a SCSI/RAID device, or present the card as a unique selection (it will display the card's name).
Some boards may require that Option ROM or User Flash Area options be enabled.
Consult your motherboard's manual for information about specific settings - options vary from motherboard to motherboard.

  I did check to make sure as I have the 640.....not the 620....

If your using DS3 tool aka "motionjoy" make sure you are not installing the "install all" button. it will overwrite your usb in a lot of cases making some things completely useless. Only use the "Load driver" option AFTER selecting the "ONE" driver you want to load.
