stuck at Loading operating system for 10minutes or more.
« on: November 12, 2011, 11:55:56 am »
hello all.

i just installed esxi which is basically a linux based distro onto my GA-P61-USB3-B3 rev v1.1 board. I have gone and updated the bios to the latest F9 version and yet still even though i havent selected AHCI in the bios it keeps getting stuck for a while (10minutes or so) saying "Loading operating system".

this problem has me going in circles. theres nothing i havent changed. i have restored the settings to default, loaded optimized and so on.

anybody got any idea?

Hi there,

It does seem as if there is an issue with running esxi from an HDD on some motherboards as there is a similar post on the forum here: http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,7305.0.html where another user is having the same problem on the AMD platform.

This user asked Gigabyte Tech Support and they feel the problem is not due to the motherboard or the BIOS and they recommended asking ESXI OS Tech Support for further help.
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

It might help to try this and if it doesn't there is nothing lost.

The next thing to try is to clear the CMOS but please do it exactly as listed below.

Remove the power cable from the mains supply and then press the power switch on the case for a few seconds just to drain any residual energy in the PSU capacitors.

Once done remove the motherboard battery for at least one hour before replacing it.

Next plug back into the mains supply and boot.

You will now need to enter the BIOS by pressing DEL and load Optimised BIOS Defaults.

Make any other changes to the BIOS settings to suit your self like disabling the floppy drive, disabling the full screen logo and making the HDD the primary boot device and then press F10 to save and exit.

I managed to get ESXi to boot of the hard drive without time delay by changing the EFI partition to basic. Se the previous mention post http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,7305.0.html

Hi friends,  ;)

In the CPU support List of:

GA-Z68MX-UD2H-B3 (rev. 1.3) with a Realtek RTL8111E chip (10/100/1000 Mbit)
http://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/cpu-support-popup.aspx?pid=3974

GA-Q67M-D2H-B3 (rev. 1.0) with a Intel 82579 chip (10/100/1000 Mbit)
http://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/cpu-support-popup.aspx?pid=3824

I do not find a Intel XEON CPU like :
E3-1225
E3-1245 and
E3-1275

This cpu is compatible with Intel® Virtualization Technology for Directed I/O (VT-d), Intel® Trusted Execution Technology, Intel® vPro Technology.

Link here on Intel site : http://ark.intel.com/compare/52274,52270,52277

See page 21, figure 3.3
http://www.intel.com/content/dam/doc/design-guide/xeon-e3-1200-lga1155-socket-specifications-and-guidelines.pdf

See page 25, figure 3.7
http://www.intel.com/content/dam/doc/guide/2nd-gen-core-lga1155-socket-guide.pdf

This CPU have a process 32nm and use a Sockets 1155 like a processors in the CPU support List

EDIT01: For VMWare...this CPU XEON are compatible with :
Enhanced VMotion Compatibility (EVC) processor support
http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1003212

Processors and guest operating systems that support VMware Fault Tolerance
http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1008027

And this CPU XEON support Releases : ESXi Installable 4.1 U2 4.1 U1 and ESXi 5.0

==============================
Otherwise I saw the models GA-Q67M-D2H-B3
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3824#ov

http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3824#manual
and I find in mb_manual_ga-q67m-d2h-b3_e.pdf the settings for :

Intel IGD SWSCI OpRegion

I don't view setting for SMX (But Support must also be enabled prior to VT and VT-d)
What means SMX? (Safer Mode Extensions, i thiks)
VT and VT-d (Support must also be enabled prior to TXT).
Intel TXT(LT) Configuration

And I repeat, this mobo have a LAN Intel 82579 chip (10/100/1000 Mbit)

Do you think it will make a difference regarding the situation you are currently living if you have this motherboard and this Intel XEON?

Assuming these XEON is compatible in fact, in practice.
Even if they are not in the official list of cpu.

Have you infos about this ?
