EX58 Extreme Windows 7 64 bit

EX58 Extreme Windows 7 64 bit
« on: October 25, 2009, 02:40:57 pm »
Having problems with the SATA2 Drives in general.

system config:
GB EX58 EXTREME F7 Bios Update - Board CMOS is cleared with 'CMOS CLr' - no overclocking
Intel i7 950 3.06Ghz - no overclocking
Asus GTX 295 - no overclocking
6G DDR3 2000Mhz G.Skill Trident
2x 500G WD SATA2 32mb Cache - No RAID
OCZ 1010WPSU
SATA ODD

Standard install Windows 7 Setup, partitions both drives fine, no 'disk drivers'
install to first partition with 100mb system partion.
completes installation perfectly, then restarts
on restarting, when the windows logo appears and it begins the 'Registry Update'
the system crashes, and reboots and crashes again in the same place,
so select 'Safe Mode', it crashs at the' Disk Drivers' command

Return to Windows 7 setup and this time run the 'Disk Drivers' from the CD
Completes install then crashes at 'CLASSPNP' when restarts wont boot, then it recommends running windows 7 setup again.

Have used all the latest RAID and ICH10R chipset drivers from Gigabyte and Intel for Windows 7 ,
but they dont help stop the windows logo crash.

After this i used an 80G IDE drive and the SATA ODD.
Then Run Windows 7 Setup, detected IDE drive, Completed installation
Rebooted and Worked perfectly, with all updates and applications functioning fine.

So I need to know if there are any settings in the bios that need to be configured for the SATA drive and what those configurations are.
this has become some what of a pain for me as it just wont work with the SATA drives.
So if any one has any spectio bios or port config ideas i would like to know.

Cheers

OK took the Mother board back and they exchanged, how ever, I have the same problem again with a whole new board, and Windows 7 still runs off an IDE drive, so i have no idea what the problem is now.

If anyone has any ideas let me know. it has been suggested the Drives might be incompatible, sounds a little strange but who knows.
all mobo features are still set to Clr CMOS setting.

have you read the mb's manual "Configuring SATA Hard Drive(s)" from page 89?

Yeah, I have read the manual cover to cover.
it says nothing about port selections, i have tried both configuring to RAID and Disable, and different SATA2 ports
both with and with out the latest windows 7 64 bit ICH10R SATA and RAID drivers.
I don't want to configure to raid or overclocking just yet, i just want the system working..on the SATA drives
This is sooo annoying >:(

If only  :-\ i had this mb then i would connect hdd's to SATA2_0 and SATA2_1, then set inside bios:
Integrated Peripherals
SATA RAID/AHCI Mode : Disabled (most problematic-proof) or AHCI

also i would try the latest bios F9d (upgrade by Q-Flash from bios setup):
http://www.giga-byte.co.uk/Support/Motherboard/BIOS_DownloadFile.aspx?FileType=BIOS&FileID=14969

no any RAID drivers required

Yeah i have tried that config and many others including AHCI settings.
will not budge, and crashs the same place every time too
Gigabyte tech zone has told me there are no special settings for default config

will try the new bios
it should just work, but the store i purchased the board from are giving me the run around
and they want me to pay them to look at it. which i refuse to do.

I cant believe no one else isn't having the same problem

Try unplugging any hard drives for the duration of install, particularly any external ones. Windows 7 had trouble installing on my raid array and my friends singe drive just because a standard USB hard drive was plugged in. I didn't even need any raid drivers or anything after I got that problem sorted out. I think I am still on the F5x BIOS.

I had pretty much exactly the same problem http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,770.0.html
Now resolved - believe it or not, it was an issue with the power supply. The Zalman HP600 power supply is in perfect working order with an AMD system, but this intel system rebooted during windows setup on the SATA drive with the GA-EX58. I was able to load windows 7 onto an IDE drive with that setup, but not onto the SATA.

Changed the power supply to a Corsair, and everything works perfect.
Unbelievable, but that's how it was with my board. Could be something else with yours, but I would highly recommend borrowing a different power supply to eliminate this possibility if you haven't done so yet.

There's a thread on "tweaktown forums" which highlighted the problem to me - a number of Zalman HP users were encountering the same problem.
Hope this helps.

ok, have made a little progress.
i have disabled some of the 'advance cpu settings'
-intel turbo boost
-single cpu core
-virtualisation technology

will complete the windows 7 64 bit installation
but when running the windows experience index it scores a very low 5.5 on most specs
so go bak to bios and turn all the cpu settings back on again.
the system still boots, BUT when i run the Windows Experince, it crashs to bluescreen

I will have to turn on and off some of the settings and retry the test to see how i go.
so still not sure

someone in another thread has said he had a siminlar problem with another EX58 board and it was the PSU  ???

see how i go!

Would really like the specs and config or anyone else that may have this board
