Gigabyte 7870 Windforce 3x
« on: April 06, 2012, 10:34:05 am »
Hi there,

I have bought a Gigabyte 7870 with Windforce 3x. The problem is that 40% fanspeed is too much for this card and its too loud. 25C in idle now. I do not want to use a third part applications to lower the fan speed. Is there a possibility to modify the BIOS of this card?

Or is there gonna be a BIOS update with the lower fan speed?

Regards
Didusieq

Hi

I can understand what you are saying and I would agree that you probably don't need such a high fan speed on idle. I don't know if there is anything in the pipeline regarding a firmware update but I would suggest that you contact GGTS and ask them. You can also give them your views on the default fan speed as if nobody tells them they won't know.

Thank you for answering

I have already contacted them. They answered me in a 30 minutes. :D They wrote me that they are working on new BIOS and my suggest will be passed to BIOS team, or something like this.

Regards.

Hi Didusieq, from some review of your 7870 i see only a 2-pin connector (so no pwm) for the x3fan, so my question is if its possible via software to manually adjust it? and one more, the fans speed is fixed or varies from idle to full?

Hi,

We have july now and still no new BIOS. Maybe they are working on it, but really slow. So maybe someone has already found the BIOS editior to 7xxx series? Or maybe I need some tool to edit the Gigabyte BIOS?

Regards.

Hi again,

I am not making excuses for them as you say it is a long time now and should have been sorted ages ago. However have you contacted them again to see what they have to say about it ? These things do get forgotten sometimes.

I have already mentioned the fact that you copy other peoples posts as your own. If I find any more instances I am afraid I will have to take action against you.

Question :    Hi, I am very happy with your product, but a small defect in the bios configuration ruin much the quality of the product, because the fans set to 40% in idle are unnecessarily excessive noise that goes with it is boring, to overcome this problem I used msi afterburner and i setting the fan manually to achieve lower noise without impacting too much on the temperature, it would be preferable that you updated the bios to fix this quirk, as a suggestion based on my experience I can give you the following parameters:
idle = 25% fan
40 ° c 35% fan
50 ° c 40% fan
60 ° c 45% fan
65 ° c 60% fan

Question :    Really i found on forums most peoples with the same request, the fan run too for nothing, this isn't a broken fan but its only fan speed too hight, 40% instead 25% in idle is a big difference in a home.

You can see in your forum i'm not the only i thinking this:
http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php?topic=8672.0

please we ask to you only a bios fan modification or a tool for do it.

We are really sorry for the inconvenience you have with our product.

Question :    I'll try to be more comprehensive..

I have a shop:
http://www.*XXX*computer.com/

my dealers are BREVI and MIND (distributors of gigabyte in Italy), I do this job since 15 years, I have repaired and installed countless computers, mainly sell your products, I'm the coach who evaluates a defect, it should not be a seller.

the fan has no defect, is the noise it makes a fan to 40% (3 fans)

This noise is not annoying while you play, but you feel too when the card is idle, lowering the fan to 25% becomes silent and temperatures remain low.

If you do not want this change, give me a editor compatible with your bios and I take responsibility for my actions.

I can tell you that I use a sofware of competition (MSI Afterburner) to solve your problem, and I would not have to use it.

I can tell you that a year ago I bought an Asus 560TI, had a similar problem, the fan became too fast to no avail, but Asus has understood and correctly.

is here in front of your eyes, the competition does:

http://www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/NVIDIA_Series/ENGTX560_Ti_DCII2DI1GD5/ # download

VGA BIOS windows update application for ENGTX560 TI Series cards.
1. New VBIOS for Reducing the FAN noisy.

Only for PN below:
70-C1CQ90-A06;
70-A06-C1CQA0

Notice:
Double click. Exe and the BIOS will be auto updated.

So, Listen to a professional like me, you can only improve the product.

I still expect your response like photocopy for how to lose a month with useless RMA to have a video card back with the same problem, there's a help but only a mistake and apologies are useless.
