Title: Gigabyte X99-UD3 - Memories slots A and B dont work
Post by: xoreba on September 06, 2016, 04:01:32 pm
Hey guys,

since last week when the technical installed the Air Cooler Maker 8 of CoolerMaster on my I7 5820K, the memories slots A and B dont work =/

I already tested each memory module and all of four memories are working normally!

I have been contacting Gigabyte Support of Brazil, but they said me that I already lost the Motherboard Warranty (used 1 year and 6 months).

They sent me some instrutions to figure it out by email, like reset the Bios by Jumper CMOS. But dont work! =[[

I m so boring and excited about it! ]

I m an gamer enthusiast and professional player of Counter Strike Global Offensive.

So...I m here to share my story and if someone can help me what I really need to do now?  :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

Bellows my specs:

I7 5820k - LG Socket 2011-v3
Gigabyte X99-UD3
HyperX Predator 2x 4Gb - 8 Gb (was 16 Gb - Quad Channel (4x 4Gb) , and now dual channel because only Slot C and D work)
GTX 970 Gigabyte Gaming G1
Corsair Case Series 78T Black
SSD HyperX PCI Express 240Gb

Please, if you prefer, contact me by: lucas_ar90@hotmail.com

**Ps: sorry for my little english!**

Thanks so much for cooperation and patience.

Sincerely,
Lucas Assad Rezende.

Greetings,
I received your PM.

Since everything was working before this cooler was added, I would remove it and go back to a stock cooler for testing.

The memory controller is in the CPU.  Since this was added, its possible that something happened when the new cooler was installed.  If the CPU was removed, I'd check the socket for bent pins.

If not removed, I'd still test with the old cooler to see what happens.

Verify the install.  After market coolers can be heavy.  This one uses a backplate.  Others have reported issues/problems when using heavy coolers or when installing large video cards.  The issues are related to misalignment or over tightening mounts, backplates or screws.

Start by going back to what worked previously.

Going to ask dmdilks to look at at this thread as well.  He has a UD4 board with the same chipset.

Hey Shadow,

thanks so much for your reply!

I will be passing this information to the TI technical, because he will go to my home tomorrow to check the problem.

I will say him to test the Intel older and original cooler.

I was close to him when he had changed the CPU cooler. He didnt remove the CPU, he also just applied the thermal past and put on CoolerMaster Maker 8.

I sent mensage to dmdilks reply in my topic. Maybe, he can help me!

Thanks so much for cooperation and reply.

Sincerely,
Lucas.

I have heard this before and 2 things is that. 1 The cooler is tighten down to tight and pushing down on the socket. Or 2 if it is to tight it could have crack the board around the CPU socket.

I would try and back off on the screw just a little that hold down the cooler. The other thing make sure the cooler is clearing everything around the CPU.

Hey Shadow, what's going?

I hope that's fine!

The TI Technical didn't return at my home. So...I tried to re-install the Air Cooler Maker 8 and tried to back off on the screw just a little that hold down the cooler. But I didn't get it =/

I have been so unmotivated with this. I cant imagine what happen with the Slots A and B!

It's too unbelievable that the guarantee Gigabyte Brazil is only 1 year!

If I check on Windows 10, my pc show me Slot A and B are empty.

What another solution to about it?

If you have other option, please let me know!

Thanks so much for cooperation and patience.

Sincerely,
Lucas Assad Rezende.

Sorry,  been busy at work...  at least its Friday  8)

Lucas,
The system worked before the tech changed out the cooler.  He/she, they need to come back and assist you/accept responsibility for the issue.  When you hire someone to fix/repair or upgrade, they don't get to "break" it and leave you to solve the problem.  They did something.  Overtightened, static electricity???

Have you put the old cooler back on to test?  You'll need to clean the top of your CPU with a VERY small amount of alcohol.  I use q-tips for this.  Clean the plate of the old cooler too.  Razor blade and more alcohol.  Then apply new thermal compound and remount the stock cooler.  If it were me, I'd look at the CPU socket too since its apart and the memory controller is in the CPU.  Look for bent pins.  See this link for an example:

Hey guys,

until today I didn't get figure out this problem.

My pc has worked with only 8 Gb memory (Channel C and D working).

Actually, I have thought to buy another motherboard, but other brand!

The Gigabyte Brazil didn't help me anything. This motherboard in Brazil is so expensive to have poor assistance!

Me and my Counter Strike GO' team are so boring with Gigabyte! We intend never to buy Gigabyte products!  >:( >:(
