Title: The new GA Z270X Ultra Gaming (for Kaby lake) no Dual Channel?
Post by: YoYo on January 23, 2017, 10:11:44 am
Hello,
I bought the new motherboard GAZ270X Ultra Gaming Rev. 1.0 for Kaby Lake ( http://uk.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=6095#kf ) but I noticed a big problem with support of memory. Memory kit is on the list as compatible so it looks like it's a BIOS problem for me.
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX, DDR4, 16GB(2x8GB), 3000MHz ( CMK16GX4M2B3000C15R ), example: https://www.morele.net/pamiec-corsair-vengeance-lpx-ddr4-16gb-2x8gb-3000mhz-cmk16gx4m2b3000c15r-776918/,
list of supporting memory for this motherboard: http://uk.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=6095#memory%20support%20list they are present here.

According the manual (here: http://download.gigabyte.ru/manual/mb_manual_ga-z270x-ultra-gaming_e.pdf ) this set of memory can work as dual channel in slot 1 -2 or 3 - 4.
On motherboard we have slots (from right side) 1324.

But when I setup this set (2x8Gb) as slot 1and2 or 3and4 I have something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0hfJBgTH8kI The BIOS and Motherboard dosent start (cant pass memory test)! So no support here.

I noticed that this memory works on Slots 1 and 3 or 2 and 4 (but not as Dual channel, screenshots below).

Any Idea? I did BIOS update from USB from F.1 to F.3 (now) but it dosen't solve this problem. Windows see 16 Gb in total but as "Single channel".

Please help me or maybe please to do BIOS update.

Info from CPU-Z (I use XMP profile also, 1,35V like in motherboard support list):

Any idea?

Just so we are not looking in the wrong place..  what CPU are you running?

Kaby lake only supports DDR4-2133/2400, DDR3L-1333/1600 @ 1.35V natively. and gigabyte states everything above 2133 is an O.C. on the boards specs.  You memory is on the QVL and it appears to be supported.

Check page 26 of your manual.

Set this to enabled.  Default is AUTO

Channel Interleaving
Enables or disables memory channel interleaving. Enabled allows the system to simultaneously access different channels of the memory to increase memory performance and stability. Auto lets the BIOS automatically configure this setting. (Default: Auto)

Can't promise this will help.

You may have to set this, save, power off and move the modules to 1 & 3 or 2 & 4 to test.  You can also try using XMP Profile #2...  although I am less hopeful about this working.  It looks like your memory is being detected properly, timings and voltage, but the dual channel failing is disappointing for sure.  If you have any slower memory, I'd test with it too.  Baring an issue with the memory controller in the CPU, you may have indeed found a bug or omission.  Might be wise to open a case with support as well and see what they have to say.

Hi, thank You,
checked this "Channel Interleaving" but the same problem, PC cant weak up.
The cpu is i7 7700K. Memory was tested 1,2v with 2133 and 1,35v with 3000MHz.
No dual channel.

Btw. I did MEMtest:

(http://s10.ifotos.pl/mini/201701292_aeqesxq.jpg) (http://ifotos.pl/z/aeqesxq/) (http://s2.ifotos.pl/mini/201701292_aeqesnp.jpg) (http://ifotos.pl/z/aeqesnp/)

Everythink is ok 4/4 test = pass, errors = 0.

I did one test more with the only one memory and I noticed when I connect memory with bank 1 and 3 the motherboard cant wake up. So it looks like this motherboard is defective fo me?

I have the same problem but with Kingston DDR4 HyperX Fury Black 2x8GB 2133 (HX421C14FB2K2/16, XMP)
I will try to switch the modules from 1-2 or 3-4 to  1-3 or 2-4 to see if he even boots up

FIXED! Dual channel now working for me.

I have the same parts as you (Z270X Ultra Gaming + Corsair 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 3000Mhz).

Placing memory in slots DDR4_1 and DDR4_2 solved it for me.

Place your memory like my picture:

This should solve it.

This solution does put a stick in each channel.  Channel B, Channel A

Channel A: DDR4_2, DDR4_4
Channel B: DDR4_1, DDR4_3

Which looks to be recommended per the manual..  but he said he tried..  But when I setup this set (2x8Gb) as slot 1and2 or 3and4 he gets POST failure.

@Sling, you must have a different kit??  What's the part number?
