Title: Gigabyte AB350 Gaming 3 + Ryzen 1600 - no power-up
Post by: Sztywny on April 20, 2017, 09:14:16 am
Hey guys, I got the Ryzen 5 1600, GA-AB350-Gaming 3 mobo (ATX edition), 2x8gb Corsair Vengeance LTX 3200MHz.
The problem is that the mobo won't boot up at all, and doesn't seem to be receiving any power. No onboard led lights light up, no fans are spinning and so on. Although, the connected mouse and keyboard do receive power. I am certain that I have connected everything properly (not my first time doing it) and that the PSU is alive and well. I've also tried to short the power on pins on the motherboard to rule out the faulty case front panel, but the PC won't power on either.

The issue seems similar to the one posted here https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/ryzen-pc-crashed-now-board-wont-power-up.18772620/
but I didn't get to start the PC even once.

Has anyone faced such issue?

Start by stripping it down to bare essentials.  Remove power, perform CLR_CMOS. If it has BIOS switches set for BIOS 1 then try BIOS 2 operation.  Remove GPU.

Try boot with CPU, cooler, 1 stick of RAM and test.  If you have another PSU, try it.

Thanks, I will give it a try when I get home. Another thing that crossed my mind - could it possibly be caused by a dead battery? Even in a new mobo?

Read only memory is not affected by the battery.  A MB with a weak or dead battery won't retain its settings, date, time, boot order, etc. but will still POST when power is supplied.

Hey again,
I did exactly as you advised. Nothing helped - mobo appears to be dead. Not a single LED lights up. I don't have another PSU, but I tested the current one on another PC and it worked. Anything else you could think of?
Thanks for your help so far.

Have read quite a few reports about this problem on the web.

Other suggestion that helped was to boot with one stick of RAM in a random DIMM slot...  any except DIMM_0 or DIMM_1

The concern in your case however, is 0 (zero) power or activity.

Hi, I'm having the same problem with my build at the moment using a GA-AX370-GAMING K5 motherboard. Did you find the solution to this?

I have the exact same problem with a Gigabyte AB350 Gaming + Ryzen 1600X

No light, no fan spinning but USB ports still have power.

Any idea?

Witch bios/UEFI did your motherboard come with. It needs F2 to start with R5 CPU:s.

I'm having the same issue. I've been working with the store I bought it from and it's got us all scratching our heads.

Ryzen 5 1600 + Gigabyte AB350 Gaming 3 mATX version.

Updated bios to F5 in the first instance because the newly built system would hang shortly after getting into a new Windows installation. It worked for a few boots then gave the same symptoms as above. Between myself and the store we have tested with:

5+ GPUs
5+ PSUs
new mobo (of the same model)
Ryzen 3 <--- it posts with this
Ryzen 7 <--- it posts with this as well
3+ types of RAM, all different slots/combinations etc

The Ryzen 5 was put in another mobo and it posts.

One frustrating peculiarity: After testing with the Ryzen 7 at the store, my CPU was put back in and the whole thing worked. I brought it home, installed the OS and stress tested/benchmarked for an hour or so. All was well so I fired up a game and got to it. Everything was fine, after finishing my game I went off to do something else to return and find a black-screen. Back to square one, no post. Re-testing at the store and with my own hardware ensued and still no go, it will just not play nice with this mobo.

The store has spent so much time on this (as have I, and I'm no slouch) they are giving up. Their solution is to sell me a Ryzen 7, which I'm not doing.

I need some help with this one Gigabyte, I'm not giving up till I have this working.

Looking forward to some input.
Thanks

It's not you.  Faulty BIOS programming of defective hardware.  Buy a different board.  This series has been nothing but trouble since its release.  Or continue to beat your head against the wall and be frustrated.
