Title: How to CLEAR CMOS?
Post by: Dark Mantis on July 14, 2010, 02:46:51 pm
How to CLEAR CMOS?

To clear the CMOS first you need to unplug the computer from the power socket. Then check:
1) If your motherboard is equipped with Clear CMOS button then press it.
2) If your motherboard has CLR_CMOS (Clearing CMOS) jumper then place a jumper cap on the two pins to temporarily short them or use a metal object like a screwdriver to short these pins for 5 seconds. Put the jumper back in it's default position (open).
3) If above methods fail then you need to remove the CMOS battery (small silver disk) and then use method 2) and additionally wait for 10 minutes. Instead of waiting you can use a metal object like a screwdriver to touch the positive and negative terminals of the battery holder (NOT the battery!), making them short for 5 seconds. Replace the battery.

The CMOS is now cleared. Now you can plug the PC into the power socket, boot up into the BIOS, Load Optimized Defaults, save and exit.

I have a GA-F2A55M-DS2 (3.0) motherboard and face the same problem as yours. I added an admin password but yesterday, I wanted to clear the password because it was a hassle typing the password everytime I will change a setting. So i decided to clear the password. But when I cleared it in the settings after I saved and rebooted, It still asks me for the password. Again I logged in and cleared the passsword again and saved and rebooted. Again it asks for the password but this time, my password doesn't work anymore so i'm locked out. Can't boot to OS nor to BIOS.

Since we have the same mobo, I hope you can help me out here if ever you had yours fixed.

BTW, I already tried clearing CMOS by shorting the CMOS reset jumper. Didn't work. Tried removing the CMOS battery overnight, didn't work. I emailed Gigabyte support but didn't have any reply yet. Hope you can help me out.

Thanks.
