Title: overclocking and gtx460
Post by: zasker on October 28, 2010, 02:42:30 pm
hi everyone not a problem but just a little odd i have just overclocked my i950 to 3.8 mainly as off work and got a little bored ;D on a x58udr3 and although my processor score in windows 7 went from 7.5 to 7.7 memory same at 7.8, had to lower rating on overclock for stability, my card gb gtx460 1gb went down from 7.6 to 7.5, this doesnt bother me as i have no intention of keeping overclock and guessing windows 7 scoring is not most accurate but still found a little confusing, anyone else had the same experience :-*

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum. I wouldn't even want to start guessing why the rating in the WEI went down for your graphics card when you overclocked the system but I can't say it really suprises me. The whole index is a waste of time and so innacurate that there is no point in using it. If you want to benchmark your system use a reliable, trusted tool that is comparible on the internet. ;)

Really I wouldnt bother with windows 7's rating... First off its inconsistent cause it doesnt run the benchmark for long enough. Secondly the HD rating is capped at 5.9 unless you have an SSD. I once got a 5.1 rating on my HD5870 for god's sake... Anw it is possible if your overclock isnt stable to reduce your overall performance so I am guessing it could produce a reduction in your graphics performance. But before you do anything else run a decent benchmark!

I encounterd the same issue, when i use after burner on my OC. the card preforms worse for some reason, when you OC via afterburner, on top of the MB oc. -shrug-

depends on your cooling etc

i can take my msi ti200 from 175/400 to 235/535 stable on the default cooling

there is no guaranteed minimum overclock so no one can say it will go so far, like all overclocking, it is trial and error
