Title: GA-G41M-COMBO: PCI-E 2.0?
Post by: vasquezalonso on February 23, 2011, 05:47:52 am
Hello...

Just a quick question: Does the GA-G41M-COMBO motherboard has PCI Express x16 2.0?

Downloaded the manual and it doesn't seem to specify. It just says PCI Express at x16.

Thank you--

- Alonso

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

I am not sure whether you are asking if the PCIE x16 slot is version 2.0 or 2.1 but all the x16 slots fitted to motherboards now are 2.0 at least and most newer ones are 2.1.

Hope that helps, if not please post back.

Just wanted to make sure it wasn't 1.0 or 1.1, since my video card would perform worse that way.

Thank you for the answer!  ;)

Hi

Your motherboard should support the card you have picked because they are all backwards compatible. Obviously you must have a spare x16 (or x8) slot to put it in though.

Just make sure that the card is good enough to meet your requirements as far as the gaming aspect goes though.

Your PSU is certainly a bit small. If it is a goiod quality one you might just get away with it for now but it is debateable.
Never buy a cheap and nasty power supply they can go wrong and take out all you other expensive components at the same time. Not only that just because it is marked 600W often they are nowhere near that rating. Purchase a good make like Seasonic, CWT, Corsair, Thermaltake, Enermax, Gigabyte, Coolermaster, Antec, etc and try and get one with a single 12V rail if possible. I would advise you to get one of about 650W minimum.

I think that PCI-e 2.0, 2.1, 3.0 are not depends on motherboard  :)

Next year I'll buy Nvidia Geforce GTX 550 Ti (PCI-e 2.1)  OR  Nvidia Geforce GT 620 (PCI-e 2.0)

Which is best compatible with my motherboard?

My current PC details:
 -Monitor > 1366x768
 -CPU > Intel Core 2 Dou E7500
 -GPU > Nvidia Geforce GT 220 (PCI-e 2.0)
 -RAM > 2x 4GB DDR3
 -HDD > 2xHDD
 -PSU > 650W

You didn't mention your motherboard?   But, if it's G41 based, then 2.0 or 2.1 card will work fine, either one, so you pick whichever you think performs the best and is the best price, ect.

In this forum you should know my motherboard is GIGABYTE G41m-Combo

Geforce GTX 600 series are better than Geforce GTX 500 series
But I think  that GTX 600 series are not compatible with my motherboard?
Because that support PCI-e 3.0 :(

Yes, sorry, not sure why or how I missed that as it's the title!

PCIE 3.0 is backwards compatible, so it should work fine but only at PCIE 2.0.  Yes, to run PCIE 3.0 you need PCIE 3.0 motherboard and PCIE 3.0 compatible CPU too.

Which is better performance?

bullsh*t  this mobo is basedo n g41 chipset and has pci-e 1.1 x16 not 2.0. I have this motherboard and its latest revision (2.0) and all my graphic cards work at pci-e 1.1 when they are under stress test .... This mobo DOES NOT HAVE PCI-E 2.0 !!!
