z77 ud3h WoL?
« on: October 23, 2012, 12:42:32 am »
I have a z77 ud3h board running Windows 7 that I am using a a home server. I would like to be able to keep it turned off, or at least in a sleep state when it is not in use. I have wake by magic packets turned on as well as allow WoL in Windows, but even still I cannot get it to work more than a couple of minutes after power down/sleep. I don't see any WoL or PME settings in the bios to turn on. The only settings in Power Management are:
AC Back (Memory)
Power on by Keyboard (Disabled)
Power by Alarm (Disable)
ERP (Disabled)
High Precision Event Timer (Enabled)
Soft-Off by PWR-BTN (Instant Off)
Internal Graphics Standby Mode (Enabled)
Internal Graphics Deep Standby Mode (Enabled)

I don't care to buy a PCI NIC if I need to, but I don't even see an option for standby power to PCI. Am I completely missing something?

I updated the bios from F7 to F17, but still can't get it working. Even if I just put it to sleep it still won't wake from a Magic Packet. If I turn it off then it will boot if I send the packet within a few minutes, but not at all if I kill the power in the back or wait more than a few minutes. Has anyone been able to get this to work with one of these boards? I'm thinking about buying a PCI NIC and see if that will work.

Question :  Dear GIGABYTE,

Thansk for your kind advices.

I contacted my PSU manufacture to know its +5Vsb/2A standby power duration and they said +5VSB/2A will remain upto 5 Min after OS shut-down and after 5 Min PSU will be in energy-save mode around 1 W to save energy-consumption. Also, they said that all of current PSU manufacture is using the energy-save function to limit its Vsb to 1W after some minutes of OS shut-down.

FYI, the RJ-46 port light is blicking indicating the port is in activie even when PSU is in the envery-save mode.

I hope GIGABYTE to modify BIOS to match with the currently/widly used PSU function. Also, you needs to descrive in the operator manual that to use WOL, PSU should maintain at least +5Vsb/1A after OS shut-down even after PSU is in the energy-save mode. Moreover, there is no BIOS option to enable/diable WOL which user can select, because I tested to use win 7 S3 energy save-faunction but it waked up again just after OS got into S3 mode so I looked over BIOS option to diable WOL function but there isn't on BIOS. So, I gave-up S3 function.

Consequently, GA-Z77X-UD3H(rev. 1.1) doesn't support WOL and S3 mode, I guess. As far as I know, GA-Z77ZX-XXXX is the advacned main-board series in your main board model, however it doesn't match up with the name of GIGABYTE in this filed.

Hoping the next BIOS revision.

Best regards,

==========

Thank you for your kindly mail. Because we didn't encounter the issue you mentioned before and this feature (WOL) requires an ATX power supply that provides at least 1A on the +5VSB lead, kindly make sure the power cord is connected even shutdown the motherboard from OS.

Regards,
GIGABYTE

Question :  About 5 min after normal o/s shut-down, I can't wake system using WOL(wake-on-lan) through router portforwding function. But, within 5 min after normal o/s shut-down, WOL works well.

The windows' energy-save function was deactivated by cmd powercfg -h off.

To isolate this problem further, I tried it without router and the same problem was found.

Your prompt reply would be much appreciated.

Default BIOS setting is used.

Hi guys,

Having the same problem with this MOBO rev 1.1
Did not have problems with my previous motherboard (an old intel db915PCY) and the same PSU (Coolermaster Silent Pro 700W, don't know if it has the same power saving capability of the PSU Bullcalf mentioned).
I also have installed F20e bios version but still no options for wake on lan.

What I have tried:

So the mobo says it does support wol. I can confirm that it DOES work when the computer has been recently powered off.
But evidence seems to confirm wol DOES NOT work for this mobo which I really like. Unless I am doing something wrong.

No options to correct this behavior on the BIOS and even if windows and linux seem to recognize wol capabilities it is not working for me.
Manual says nothing about wol either ...

Plz help!

Thanks
Martin
