GA-Z77-DS3H PCI Express x16 Slot & Memory Problem
« on: November 16, 2012, 10:19:40 pm »
Hi all
This is the first and last time I buy Gigabyte. I have a Sapphire HD7850 graphics card and a GTX 550Ti card, both working fine on other boards but will not work when installed in the PCI Express x16 slot, but will work when put into the other PCI Express slot.
I have updated to the latest bios (F9), but the machine gives me 1 beep then just keeps re-booting when I use the x16 slot.

This is a bad design as when I use the second PCI Express slot all but 2 of the SATA ports are blocked by the graphics card.

Another problem I'm having is with the memory. I purchased 32GB of kingston Hyper X red which worked fine in my old machine but I just get continuous bleep when posting, I tried just installing 1 stick (8GB), STILL DON'T WORK. These are 1.5v  and 1600mgz.

Any suggestions much appreciated .

I can make a suggestion on the memory use ones that are on the approved list as those modules arent on the list and when using that size of ram it is better to use approved ram. Even though it works on another board gigabyte doesnt have it on the list for a reason.

When using your first pcie slot are you just using one card and not the other or trying to use both in different slots. If the board doesnt boot from 1 card in the first slot make sure PSU is strong enough and if it is RMA the board as the first slot should work but i cant garantee it if you are using an amd card in slot one and a nvida card in slot 2 some motherboards are picky about using the 2 different branded cards in same board. If the ati card by itself in slot one and no other card still doesnt boot with approved ram then your board could be bad but you have to fix the memory problem first to try the card.

Hope this helps if not absic or dark mantis should be in, in awhile they can probably offer more advice than i can.

Welcome to the gigabyte forums.

Hi
Thanks for your reply. I was using 2 different cards but never at the same time (sorry for the confusion).
I have sorted out the memory problem now but not quit sure how or what I did to correct the problem, it happens to me a lot.
I have an old ASUS 550Ti working in the PCI Express x16  Slot, so slowly but surely I'm getting the board set up how I want it.
I still have the same problem though with the Sapphire HD 7850 2GB, it dosen't want to work in the x16 slot, I have tried changing some of the settings but I will keep trying.

As that is a newer board it makes me wonder why the ati card isnt working. I am sure you have a good PSU to power it with dont you and that you have checked it to make sure it will power that card in your setup.  I had a computer with a 3850 in it and i upgraded to a 6870 and it wouldnt give me any display so i just grabbed a 500 watt builder series PSU and now the card works in it.

As you know the card works in another system the PSU or a bios setting is all i can think it would be and i mention the PSW because it happened to me before. I am glad you are slowly getting it sorted as gigabyte do make decent boards but sometimes going form one brand to another brand MB requires a learning curve when i switched from a msi to asus one time it took a week for me to configer the asus bios to get every thing running right.

Have the EXACT same problem with the Sapphire HD7850 2gb and the Gigabyte board.. Will work in the x4 slot, not the x16. Anybody figure this out yet?

BIOS>MIT>Misc Settings>PEG Gen> set to 2.0 >reboot..

Motherboard BIOS needs updating? Kinda sux to have a PCI3.0 card running at PCI2.0
