GV-R797OC-3GD v2.1 locked voltage
« on: November 23, 2012, 03:32:04 pm »
Many reviewers on internet received v1.0 version of same card (GV-R797OC-3GD) which was voltage unlocked and most of them easily overclocked to 1200MHz+.

Mine is rev 2.1 (bios F70), and it is voltage locked and I can bearly achieve stable 1060MHz. GPU temperature is around 60ish degree C, so more then OK. I have tried every overclocking tool and none of then could adjust the voltage. Flashing old BIOS version is not possible.

I am very disapointed and obviosly mislead when buying this high-end product od $449, advertised a "OC" version.

Gigabyte, please release a voltage unlocked BIOS, well at least up to 1.25V which should be quite safe.

It's unbelievable! The card is barely working, it's obviously not being pushed at all, but as soon as I OC more than 7.5% it crashes.

That's a joke. Why get a card with such an awesome cooler if you can't OC it?

I'm taking mine back to the shop. Very disappointed.

I returned the card today and got a sapphire version instead. First thing I did was dial it up to 1150 and 1500mhz and played some Crysis 3.

It's sweet! Didn't miss a beat and didn't go over 60c! I'm wondering how far i can push this puppy!

I still think gigabyte make solid products but stopping you from OCing your own hardware is wrong, and in hindsight, it was a blessing that I had a rattley fan, I got to try the card out and realise that I have NO interest in owning a high performance card that can't overclock.

Lesson learned. I was blindly loyal to gigabyte and assumed that a card with a great cooler and OC in the name would be able to OC. Next time I'm doing my research!

As I said in the other thread, I have a 7970 OC on order, but if the volt is locked, then it's getting exchanged for a non G-B card. Putting a v lock on a card which has good cooling and "OC" in the title is a slap in the face. G-B, please release a bios which will let us unlock the voltage. A promising response on the matter in the next few days will see me keeping the 7970 OC when it comes in stock.

I bought this card for OC. I'm really angry I can't do a decent OC because of the voltage locked! Please Gigabyte release an unlocked BIOS!

I'm really tired of the indifference that Gigabyte is showing to our case! Is there anything we can do? Like a web petition or something like that?

most new gpu are now voltage locked, if you want a card which isn't voltage locked then you have to pay the extra. some new cards state on the box, VOLTAGE UNLOCKED !!

You want it, you pay for it sadly

I have been in contact with support via email, but there is no name, position or anything.
The person just signs all correspondence with // Gigabyte

The reply Im getting is, WE DONT RECCOMEND OVERCLOCKING.
Its a preoverclocked card....

Only use our software....

Dont use Afterburner....

Have anybody tired anything esle ?
Facebook, Twitter or something ?

At least gigabyte could update the website, so new customers dont think the card can overclock.
