Gigabyte UD5 boot code 88 problem

Hello

I have had my UD5 along with a 6gb ddr3 kingstone kit, nvidia gtx280, x-fi extreme gamer and 2x640gb samsung f1's in raid 0 for roughly 9 months now. For the past month or something my machine refuses to boot randomly with an error code of "88" on the board itself.

Now this could either be a "B" or "8" or a combination of the two.

I have tried 1 stick of ram, resetting the cmos and making sure all the cables are plugged in.

Does anyone have any advice on this problem?

The only code that seems to be relevant is this:

The only problem is that the code i get is capitalised. This is the first sequence on a normal boot procedure but mine does not seem to go further than this first stage.

Normally my fans will spin at full speed for roughly 20 seconds. When the problem kicks in at boot my fans do not do this and it just sits at this error code.


Any help would be great.

It seems to me to be a memory related problem, have you run memtest on all memory sticks,

This block of code has to be implemented in every Intel based platform BIOS. It initializes and configures the processor and runs bus training and adusting routines. It adjusts clockskews, read/write leveling, signal termination resistors and several chipset timings dynamically depending on the trace length, signal quality, timing and memory installed in the motherboard. If the MRC code hangs or the board cant pas the MRC code and resets it usually points towards memory problems and unsupported multiplier settings or a unsupported combination of multipliers.
I don't know if capitalised means anything, sorry

I have reset the bios using the button aswell as taking the battery out for over an hour. Still nothing. I took out each stick of RAM and tried each on its own in every RAM slot. That did not do anything either.


Any ideas?

Did you remove the power from the PSU when you removed cmos battery,
Run memtest on ram sticks on another PC (nudge a friend)
Did you reset your cpu and memory to manufacturers settings  after clearing cmos,
Can you find and connect a case speaker as well so you can see if any error beeps are also emitted?
Is your raid array OK, you might be getting a hdd failing.
Can't suggest any more m8, perhaps another formite can help,
I'm still checking out that error code,

OK well yes i did remove the cable when i removed the battery.

The problem with everything else is that i dont get any boot screen so i cannot enter the bios to reset things to default. my monitor does not even go out of standby.

I dont know anyone with a DDR3 motherboard either.

If it was a failed hdd then the machine would still boot and i should get some sort of error code displayed.

Unfortunatly i was unable to find one and even tried to get one from a few local shops but unsuccessful.

After another few hours of the battery out i was able to get the machine started. I have set everything to default but still if i restart i have a chance to get stuck at the code "88" / "8B" / "B8"

Once you get it started reset all the memory cpu & voltage to manufacturers specs,

Noctua cooler
3x2gb Kingstone hyper x DDR3 1600
Gigabyte ud5
Samsung f1 x 2 @ raid0
Be quiet! 750watt PSU
Silverstone Fortress case
Nvidia GTX280 OC2
Creative x-fi extreme gamer

Everything is set back to factory defaults but when i restart i seem to have a large chance of getting stuck with my machien not booting.

And again today i restarted and it took me over an hour to get my machine turned on.....

it seems to be following code: 8B
with meaning : 1. Invoke all ISA adapter ROMs 2. Invoke all PCI ROMs (except VGA)

so maybe the reason is Creative sound card ? try without it just to test

I have tried this before and it does not make any difference. I also tried with another graphics card with the same outcome.
