GA-F2A85X-UP4 + AMD A10 5800K - bios post doesnt show on HDMI TV
« on: December 16, 2012, 02:12:46 pm »
Hello everyone

I bought new motherboard GA-F2A85X-UP4 and I have problem with BIOS post display on my HDMI LCD Panasonic TV. It only shows me image when windows are completely loaded on login screen. This is pretty annoying situation.

PC works fine in Windows with VGA or HDMI display connectors. But problem is that HDMI will only become active once the graphics drivers in Windows are loaded. This has never happened with my other older HDMI cards or motherboards with integrated Intel GPU. Im using integrated GPU in Trinity CPU and nothing else except of memory modules and HDD is installed.

So now when I need do some BIOS adjustments or DOS work (i cant also see Windows starting screen or installation) I have to connect my old CRT monitor via VGA motherboard port to be able see what is displayed during PC start (like BIOS screen, Windows starting screen, Windows installation etc. ...). On board motherboard HDMI connector works only inside Windows.

I suppose it must be some BIOS issue or AMD GPU firmware problem.

I can see some color lines or only black screen instead of BIOS post or Windows startup screen until Windows login screen:

Im considering return this motherboard and buy something from MSI or ASUS if Gigabyte cant solve this problem soon.

Well you can try MSI or ASUS but my last ASUS had that same problem so good luck going that direction. Also just a kind word of advice when you post in a forum to ask for help dont end it by saying if you dont get it solved you are going to buy another brand.

We are all here to help and none of us get paid by gigabyte so it doesnt help your case at all.

Well if you say you had the same problem how did you solve it? I have tried almost everything but it seems to be problem with motherboard.
I used to run in past MSI Z68 and Intelt Z77 motherboards with Celeron (Sandy bridge) and I5 (Ivy bridge) processors and onboard HDMI worked just fine both in Windows and BIOS. It displayed everything. I also used to run Gigabyte GeForce GTX660 GPU through HDMI on my TV and all was OK too.

Im just dissapointed and need solve this problem soon cos I have 14 days period from buy to return motherboard without reason back. And only few days remain now. Im not sure claiming will solve problem.  ???

Hi all,

I realize this is an older thread, but i have the same problem and Google-ing it led me here so i thought i give it a try. I have a A85X based motherboard from another manufacturer with an A4 5300 APU and have the exact same problem. My Plasma TV connected via HDMI shows no image until windows loads the drivers. The TV appear to be receiving come kind of signal but no image is displayed (when there is no signal it displays a no signal message). I had to do the bios setup and installation on another monitor connected via VGA.
Has anyone who had this problem solved it or at least found out weather it's a MoBo or APU problem?

Thank You.

Motherboard problem maybe ,but don t exclude the TV itself.
My A4 5300 based HTPC detects just fine my LG LCD TV on HDMI.

When I was using a Nvidia GT240 and had my TV on the HDMI output of that card, it never showed any graphics until the login in screen (though it would be black and allow the mouse into that area in the screen or display the login screen depending on if I had selected the TV as the "default display" or not as the case may be).

However, I am now curently using an ATi Radeon HD4670, which displays both on the HDMI and the VGA from the BIOS, then when it detects the SATA drives ( which are in ACHI mode) it shows the results in the TV, then the "Starting Windows" screen is displayed in both screens (VGA and HDMI).

I highly doubt its the TV. I would say its more APU side than mobo; my mobo and TV are the same in both instances. In either case I dont think theres a lot you can do about it except live with it - unless you want to change graphics cards?

cchaos ,it s not the APU itself ,it s the BIOS or the way the board is designed.

The APU will send the signal ,the problem is what the mobo is doing with it.

I suggest you read the specs of my computer (GA-790XTA-UD4) then tell me where my APU is at and then reread my post....

OK here is an update. I returned my old system in the htpc (Athlon II X2 240 on a GA-MA78GM-S2H - HD3200 integrated graphics in the 780g chipset). It shows both post and BIOS on the TV (Panasonic TX-P42S30E). I tried the new APU system on my old LG lcd TV and it works (shows bios). So the problem appears only when i use my new board and APU with the new TV.
After this I googled the problem without motherboard and cpu  specifics and it seems it is a problem that appears on many new graphics cards (integrated and discrete) with HDMI 1.4. The suspect is the HDMI 1.4 handshake failure. This make sense because my old mobo and TV have HDMI 1.3 and any combination between 1.3 and 1.4 standard reverts to the lower one. The problem can appear when both devices are 1.4.  So I'm not holding my breath for a solution since this is so rare it will not significantly affect sales for AMD.

Interesting. Got me curious as to what version is on my TV and what the HDMI ports on the cards are
