Hi, new user here. I've just built a new system for a customer around the above mainboard. Processor is a black edition phenom2 quad. 4gb ddr2 and a gigabyte hd 5770 graphics card. Problem I have is that the system spends around 20 to 30 seconds going 'click-click' prior to pausing and then starting. This happens from cold start as well as reboot. Haven't come across this issue before, is it something to do with this mainboard? Anyone seen this before. Urgent answer would be appreciated. Thanks.

Does it post outside case with just cpu?,
Any beeps Or codes on post?,
You got Paste on Cpu,
Bent leaf on zif socket?
Got the memory/cpu set up in bios

Hi Pete, thanks for the reply. I have tracked down the issue to the Gigabyte HD5770 graphics card. With this card installed I get a triple click repeated for 20 - 30 seconds and then the system boots. Have never encountered this before and am loathe to order in a new card as the system works perfectly after the eventual start. A bog standard graphics card boots without a problem.

Hi,
Sounds like a configuration problem!
You get any error messages when up and running,
Have you got the latest bios and drivers,
1. Right click My Compuer, click on Manage, click event viewer and check for error messages.
2. Hit F8 as it begins to boot and enable boot logging. The next time you get
it running, go to your windows folder and look for bootlog.txt file for info.

The problem is before any activity at all. BIOS is updated to latest. No error messages or any other problems encountered of any kind. The issue is prior to loading screen, summary screen or any flicker of existence from the PC. 'Tis a baffling problem. I have contacted Gigabyte and await their reply. I can't even decide if it IS a problem or a warming up/settling down routine!

If it doesn't click/restart 20times with a different graphics card then I would RMA your 5770. Although you say everything works fine when it eventually boots you may not be getting the best FPS in games and the lifespan of the card may not be great as it already (from what I can see) has a fault.

We are ordering in a new 5770 today for replacement. I think I would agree with you both. I've had no response from the Gigabyte service team so moving on to plan B!

I have a very simialr problem with this board

Phenom x 3 core 720 ( 95watt)
new 550 Watt power supply
ati 4770 x 500meg version
4 gig corsair x800
500 gig samsung spin-point -not partition / formatted ntfs
not over clocked
all drivers /service packs up to date ( bios ver f5)

when the power button is pressed ( from cold start ) there are about 10- 20 "clicks" before the board starts in a normal way 

the fan doesn't spin up completely , but spins about 2-3 times and stops at each click , the video signal doesn't show on the monitor at this stage

after about 30 seconds , the PC resets and then starts up OK ,and works OK for hours ,it is   stable and doesn't over heat #( shows about 15c after 30 mins ) - no faults shown in windows either -works ok with games - played wolfenstein with ease 

cant change ati card as don't have another pci-e one to use

Frustrating. Have now tested the card in 2 other systems with no fault so it would appear my prognosis is wrong and am changing the mobo. Had changed every other thing except the board. Noticed also that my USB Ultra-X tester wouldn't boot from this mobo - should have told me something!

Cos I was bored , I looked again at the system 

1) all cables etc connected to correct wires / polarity correct / all cables new out of box
2) RAM / Graphics card inserted correctly
3) formatted and reinstalled Windows xp pro sp3 , slip-streamed disc with Nlite

disconnected 2 x 100mm additional case fans that I had connected to the mobo ( pwr_fan #5 in user manual and sys_fan #19 ) clicking much reduced , CPU fan operating much as normal , though overall temp up

CPU temp now showing 32c

So suspect Power supply cant provide enough power through motherboard 

If you have additional fans , try pulling the plug on them
