GA-890FXA-UD7 IDE and GSata controller not working
« on: April 06, 2013, 01:27:27 am »
Hello,

I resently bought an GA-890FXA-UD7 mainboard with a AMD Phemon II black edition processor.
I have the mainboard up and running but i am trying to connect one of my older IDE HD's but the HD is not recognisted.
I also found out in the BIOS that the two GSATA2 ports are not visable.

Everything in the BIOS is set so that de IDE and GSATA ports should be enabled.
PCIEX 4_2 in the BIOS is set as X1 link, so the onboard IDE and GSATA2_6 and 7 are available but they are not.

I have a graphicscard from MSI on PCIEX 4_1
It should be in PCIEX 16_1 but if I put the card in this slot, I have no images, I have only image if i put the card in slot PCIEX 4_1 or 4_2

Does anyone have any idea what is causing these 2 problems?

Regards,

Henk

Hello autotech,

Tnx for your help.

Operating system is windows 7 Ultimate

RAM is 4 x 4GB, Corsair XMS3 memory.
Videocard is MSI R5450, 1 GB.

The mainboard has a seperate IDE port, I am not converting.

The mainboard has 6 SATA3 ports.

On SATA3_0 there is an WD 320 GB SATA HDD
On SATA3_1 there is an Samsung DVD writer
On SATA3_2 there is the SATA connector from the internal sata connection of my computer housing (this is an internal slot for 2,5 or SSD drives)
On SATA3_3 there is an other Samsung DVD writer

SATA3_4 and SATA 3_5 are not used yet
GSATA2_6 and GSATA 2_7 are not used also.

In the BIOS the GSATA2_6 and 7 port and the IDE port are not visable.

The settings in the BIOS are:

Intergrated peripherals:
- Onchip SATA controller   : enabled
- Onchip SATA type   : Native IDE
- Onchip SATA3.0 support   : enabled

At onboard PCI devices:

- Primary dual slot config     : auto
- Secondary dual slot config: auto
- PCIEX4_2 slot config     : As X1 link

- Onboard GSATA/IDE ctrl     : enabled
- Onboard GSATA/IDE mode: IDE
- Onboard ESATA controller : enabled
- Onboard ESATA mode     : IDE

Do you have another card you can try in the 16-1 slot to see if the slot works?  If you try another card and it doesnt work id say rma the board if possiable.
My slots which are close to yours are all occupied except for the gsata. Running at ACHI on first four then sata on the last 2. Im a turn this off and see what bios reports to get a better grasp on what you are saying if i have more to add i will be back shortly.

OK My IDE in bios is not seen at all says i have no IDE hooked up but in windows 7 ultimate it does see my ide dvd drives.
GSATA IDE control is enabled
GSATA IDE mode is AHCI
E SATA is in IDE mode
E SATA cocntroller is enabled

E SATA i know works GSATA i dont use so can comment.
You may have to send it in if it isnt working right make sure your PSU can handle it Maybe reset bios and make sure it is at latest level. Trying to think of what i would do  and i would do a fresh install of windows after a bios reset and changes made and hook up 1 drive at a time.  If you rule it al out then send in the board you have a great board aand it should work right.

I have tried 3 video cards in the 16_1 and 16_2 slot. All 3 don't work in these slots.
PSU is 550 Watt.

I upgraded the BIOS, connected the IDE HDD and it is not seen in the BIOS also Windows 7 is not seeing the HDD.
If I pull the IDE cable from the HDD but leave the powercable on, the HDD comes to live and starts spinning.

it seems to me that there is something wrong with the board.

Not sure here in america it is 3 years warranty. If you just bought it you might get away with exchanging it thru place of purchase. If it has been over both time limits which i doubt that board came out last year.  Email gigabyte tech assist they will let you know for sure.

I changed the mainboard at the reseller.
Everything works fine now.

The mainboard that I had, had some mayor issues. The reseller was very surprised.
