GA-890FX-UD5 Audio driver for Server 2012?
« on: April 15, 2013, 11:08:23 am »
Where can I download the Audio driver (Realtek) for a GA-890FX-UD5 running Server 2012?

Device Manager does not automatically install drivers for this audio chipset.  This is using BIOS F7e.

Thanks,
  Nick

I assume you have the GA-890FXA-UD5 motherboard as I can't find an 890FX.

There are several different revision for this board, so you will need to find out which version you have before downloading any updates. If it is Rev. 3.1 you can download drivers from here: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3781#dl

If yours is a different revision then click on the correct version at the top of the page to go to the correct download page.

Yes board is a GA-890FXA-UD5, rev 2.1.

Problem is that page doesn't seem to list any drivers for Server 2012!

Try the desktop version equivalent drivers ,Windows 8 drivers  i presume.
Realtek offers drivers also ,you should check the Realtek download site as well.

Beat me the Vezina, I thought Windows 8 drivers (64 bit) might work.  :P

You can always try asking on the Microsoft Server Forums via this link: http://support.microsoft.com/ph/1163#tab0 as someone there, should be able to help too.

  :)

A question would be what is the machine used for ,maybe some linux distro can get the job done better, installing the audio drivers out of the box.

Have tried the Gigabyte Win8 64-bit driver, also tried same direct from Realtek site but neither seem to recognize the hardware properly.  After reboot the device is still shown with no drivers.

Ubuntu or OpenSuse would detect the on-board sound and give you enough server power.
I have no idea how you can install the driver in your actual OS if the drivers gets removed afterwards.

Primary purpose of this machine is as a Server 2012 Hyper-V virtualisation host.

Anyone know if/when Gigabyte might get around to creating a Server 2012 driver for this board?

Alternatively are there any other built-in Server 2012 audio drivers which would work with this motherboard?
