GA-PA65-UD3-B3 hdd turns off after reset
« on: June 06, 2013, 11:04:11 pm »
Hi all! :)
Very rarely, when there was a need to use the reset button on the computer case my hdd sometimes turns off sometimes not. There is the sound of spin up and click (normal, when hdd is turns on) when computer return on after pressing the reset, and sometimes all quiet (hdd is NOT turns off). What is it? Why sometimes hdd turns off after pressing reset button? Soft and Hard reset? Tell me please Guru.

ps GA-PA65-UD3-B3 (F12), HD204UI, win7x64, PSU 650W Chieftec,

UPD Button reset on case. Is it hard or soft reset functionality under windows?

Hi 12sunflowers,

Welcome to forum,

Depending on whether you tell Windows.

If you weigh on the start button on the case, he must understand that you want to Standby computer, or actually close the computer.

So check here:
Control Panel \ Hardware and Sound \ Power Options \ System Settings

Parameters of power buttons and standby

Oterwise, I find this infos:

The reset button would typically kick off a soft boot, instructing the computer to go through the process of shutting down, which would clear memory and reset devices to their initialized state.

Contrary to the 'Power Button', which would simply remove power immediately.
But windows change this situation...

Hi again,  ;)

Providing additional clarification about the situation:

I have need infos about your CASE - exact model and web link of brands, please...

You write : ''the reset button on the computer case''

Have you a manual , guide or document (add web link about this)...

The reset button would typically kick off a soft boot, instructing the computer to go through the process of shutting down, which would clear memory and reset devices to their initialized state.

It does not seem logical that you hard drive or SSD to be put off?

Hi,
Has it somthing to do with the time you press the button? (Pressend time)
Short time, hdd keeps spinning, long time all off?

Secondly, i have disconnected the reset button.
Don't use the reset button to Much..
Windows does not like it.

Hi people! Thanks for interesting for my problem.
Case - Coolermaster CMP 350 http://www.coolermaster.com/product/Detail/case/mid-tower/cmp-350.html
I think that under normal working windows reset button do Software reset. And some times very rarely if win or game lockup or freeze then i press reset button on case i have Harware reset with power off my HD204U. That do you think?
Pressed time ~0.5sec

I understand that reset button is undesirable. User should use Power button with normal power off. I wonder why sometimes power off hdd after reset?

Also you could try adjusting Power Options, such as disabling "Turn off hard disk after" and switching the profile to "High performance".
