Configuring Memory in the BIOS (GA-990FXA-UD3 rev.4.0)

I am having trouble adjusting the memory settings on my newly installed GA-990FXA-UD3. I am using this ram: (http://www.ocztechnology.com/ocz-ddr3-pc3--black-edition-ready-cl8-dual-channel.html); however, I am unable to set it to the manufacturer's specifications:

1600MHz DDR3
CL 8-8-8-24
1.65 Volts

I have changed the settings within the BIOS, but they are not carrying over Windows where it is still listed as the BIOS defaults:

1066MHz
CL 7-7-7-16
1.50 Volts

Is there some option I am missing that enables the changed settings to take effect? I would appreciate any advice, thank you.

Motherboard: GA-990FXA-UD3 (rev.4.0) F1 BIOS
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965
Memory: OCZ3BE1600C8LV2G
PSU: Antec CP-850
GPU: Radeon HD 4870

XMP ram?  ..then just set it to XMP (ram section), choose profile, and it should boot up at 1600

no need to fumble with ram settings

Yes, I saw the X.M.P. feature listed in the manual under the M.I.T.\Advanced Frequency Settings menu.  Unfortunately it does not appear in my BIOS menu.




You can't really tell due to the brightness, but I've also set the system memory multiplier to 8.00 in the right column, which set the memory's frequency to 1600MHz.

Was X.M.P. removed from the revision 4 boards?

Should be there me thinks - maybe ram not XMP or incompatible?

Try a bios hard reset?

OCZ is no longer in the PC memory business, but back in 2009 they were. The memory you have doesn't have XMP profiles. It has something that was marketed as Black Edition Memory Profiles (BEMP) that were accessed by using the unique AMD “OverDrive” (AOD) capability. BEMP works through AMD's Overdrive software, BEMP was exclusive to socket AM3 motherboards. One of the requirements: the system must meet the following requirements in order to enable the Black Edition Memory Profile feature: ◦790FX, 790GX or 790X AM3 motherboard with BEMP compatible BIOS revision


You do have to manually increase the DRAM voltage to 1.65v from 1.5v on that memory.

2) GA-990FXA-UD3 Rev. 1.1, FX-8350
3) GA-AM1M-S2P, Sempron 3850 Kabini

I see. That's one mystery solved.  Thank you for the explanation.

I have tried to manually increasing the settings (CAS latency, voltage, and frequency) already. You can see where I have increased the voltage in the right column here.



However, the settings do not take effect upon saving and exiting BIOS.  Is there something more than changing the value in the right column that must be done in order for the manual settings to be enabled?
