GA-Z77X-D3H & Easy Tune 6
« on: October 21, 2013, 02:01:49 pm »
Hi  :)

I've just part finished a new computer build using the GA-Z77X-D3H (rev. 1.1) motherboard, bios version F14.
Specs are at the moment...i5 3570k CPU,  500GB Seagate HD,  4GB Kingston Ballistix smart tracer 1600 DDR3 RAM,  OS. WIN 7.
I've just installed the motherboard drivers and utilities from the driver cd after a successful first boot.  :)
Before I install any more hardware and ram etc. I thought I'd try some of the utilities provided from the disk.
Most of the programs seem to function okay as far as I can tell at the moment, but the readings for cpu temperatures in Easy Tune
differ quite a lot from the basic bios readings. For example...in the bios the cpu temperature is about 32C but Easy Tune readings for the cpu are about 11C-18C  ???
Any thoughts on this why there's such a difference?
Any information appreciated  :)

Hi CP, mine's the same, slightly different mobo, same issue. AIDA64 is also out compared to the temp shown in BIOS. I'm inclined to believe the highest temperature readout in the BIOS and manually add the difference to the onscreen display temp.

I'm watercooled on the cpu, so I'm not too worried about 10c or even 20c degrees difference too much. I suppose it's just a software glitch.

The thing is that when you are in windows the OS will controls the speed of the CPU. It will only use what it needs to make thing run.

Try and run some thing like a game or video some thing that will make the CPU work. Then check to see what the temp is.

When you are in dos it is different than when you are in windows. In dos everything will run hotter even your video card.

Hi DM, Thanks for that explanation.

I figured that it's fully ramped up in bios and when loading up. Then it drops the power in windows with the cpu power saving option ie; up to 3.9ghz starting up and then it drops to 1.6ghz, at least on mine it does. Maybe that goes some way to accounting for the temp fluctuations.

However..  ;D

At 3.9ghz, in a game, my cpu temp still only reaches 34c. Sure, it's hooked up to 2 x 360 thermochill radiators and on it's own loop. But it just seems likely to be a little low with that reading. But like I said, I'm not worried about it. I know that it won't go too high with those rads. Although it might be more of an issue for some with air cooling. If I were to manually add 10 or 12 degrees C to that cpu temp, (the difference between the bios readout, easytune 6 and AIDA64) it starts to look more realistic.

My CPU temp is 32c in the bios and I run a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO on my CPU. So reading at those temp are normal.

Hi again  ;D

Thanks for the input folks, so it seems that this is roughly 'normal' for the software readings...for a moment I thought it was something I'd said to the software under my breath  ;)...(there was quite a lot of cussing at this end whilst I was tinkering around with the program!  ;D)
I installed the graphics card last night, (MSI Twin Frozr R7950 BE V277  with the 8 & 6 pin power sockets). Everything worked fine...except for the disk driver software!
I had to go to the main AMD site and download the relevant Catalyst driver software, as the drivers just wouldn't install from the supplied disk. ???
Anyway, thanks once again, your info.much appreciated  ;D

The disk that you get with the video card is only used as a glass coaster.  ;D  You always get you drivers from AMD.  ;)

Plus don't ever let windows do updates to your hardware.  :(
