GA-990FXA-UD5 Rev 3.0 bios FCb do not work.
« on: January 15, 2014, 02:46:05 am »
Just finished building a rig with the UD5 and an FX9590, and flashed from FB to FCb. Trying to enter the bios, the computer freezes and the bios menu doesn't load. BUT Windows still boots fine, and is Prime95 stable.

Flashed it back to FB and the bios work fine, but FB doesn't support the FX9590, so it's unstable and runs poorly.

Currently living with the broken FCb. Having it Prime stable leads me to believe that this has nothing to do with my rig at all, and it's a specific bug in the bios. Searched quite a bit, can't find anyone having the same issue.

I filed a support ticket yesterday but it hasn't been processed yet.

Hello, I have the same board and I do have the 9590 and yes the FCb BIOS is a mess  >:(, but I do have mine working. What we will be doing here will require you to reinstall windows so I recommend doing a system image backup.

First, clear the CMOS using the jumper on the motherboard. (hold a screw driver there, turn it on for a bit, then shut it off)

After that is complete, just use the BIOS defaults.

Then Flash the bios using a USB flashdrive and use Q-Flash on post. (sidenote: you need to get the amd AHCI preinstall drivers from gigabyte to get the most performance of your hard drive or ssd, stick those on the usb as well)

After it is all loaded go to the bios settings and verify your ram speeds and all that custom stuff you want.

Then reinstall windows using the system image and load that ahci driver I was talking about.

Then you are done. (Oh, and if you plan on running Arma 2 or 3, the engine seems to like the -cpuCount=16 option  ???)

Prime is useless on FX chips if the default settings (APM and Turbo) are used.
This test will never fully load all cores in same time thus the test will not show you if the system is really stable.
Run some true benchmarks like 3DMark or something better and see if it crashes.

A new BIOS may trick you into believing the CPU runs stable when in fact it will throttle it to keep it safe ,thus never reaching full performance.I would advice you to use a 8350 instead it s cheaper.

If i am not mistaking Gigabyte released special HW revision (rev5.0 or something like that) of this high end boards to run this 220W chips properly.

The "new" revision your talking about is the rev. 3.0 and it only fully supports the new fx 9590 with the FCb bios. So here she is trying to get the FCb bios to work but its not cooperating. Thus forcing here to run the FB bios which doesnt support it. So the answer about prime wasn't helpful at all.

Are you sure you are not mixing boards ?! :)

The UD7 rev 3.0 is new ,the UD5 rev 3.0 is released in 2012.
Most probable high end boards made after June 2013 will support this 220W CPU-s fully ,but the board engineered prior may have issues as you are experiencing.
That BIOS is a beta and if user feedback will be mostly negative the support may be dropped.
Thus my upper post.
I ve seen this FX CPU-s at work and with the 220W TDP CPU-s very few boards really cope ,it s about current capability.

I have this issue also and I have contacted tech support.

Does anyone have a solution for this?
I have tried flashing with efiflash, q flash and @bios.
I have tried version FA, FB, FC and FCh and nothing. Stuck with version FCg
