UEFI firmware settings

UEFI firmware settings
« on: August 08, 2014, 02:36:10 pm »
Hi all

I have been trying to find the UEFI firmware settings in Windows 8.1 with no success. Having turned on fast boot/ultra fast boot I can't use the DEL key anymore. In theory I can go to Settings, Update and Recovery, Recovery, Troubleshoot, Advanced Options and there I should see the UEFI Firmware Settings but it is not there. I have looked through the BIOS settings (temporarily installing App Centre!) with no joy. I have tried changing from the PCI GFX card to the on chip GFX but again no joy.

Any clues for me?

Thanks in advance!

Seriously no one has this problem as well as me?

I posted this on 8 August and whilst I have had lots of people look at the post, no one has posted a reply.

There must be other people who can't get into BIOS on this chipset. I'll keep hoping!

Hi,

My problem seems pretty similar to yours but not quite: on start up, the Gigabyte logo is displayed showing the END, F9, F12 and END keys but unfortunately none is operational.

Consequently I can't even enter BIOS and tentatively reload the motherboard (H87M-D3H) drivers.

Any know remedy to this dreadful situation?

Thanks to any helping hand.

What BIOS version are you using?
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

You can get through to UEFI settings through the settings in Windows 8, advanced startup, etc..

Another even easier way is to install app center and then the Fast Boot app. It has a button to enter the BIOS, when clicked reboots into the UEFI BIOS.

No idea why that guy asked what version of BIOS you are running as it has no validity here.

1)
IMHO,  you have to reformat your system hardrive and re-install the win8.1 x64 in UEFI mode (you can see the UEFI option in bootmenu,if your win8x64 DVD or usb thumbdrive is support UEFI)
please notice that, your  hardisk will be re-formatted to  GPT, instead of MBR.
that's all.

You can see the UEFI firmware setting option  the windows Settting > Update > blah...blah..blah..  now.

2) or,  start up the window normally,  and then using "restart" option to restart the window , instead of "shutdown".
and then,  you can enter the BIOS normally by click "DEL" button (or other button, pls check your motherboard manual for the detail).

Start, run, msinfo32, check if BIOS Mode is UEFI and also check Secure Boot State.

Another way to verify if you have installed Windows correctly for secure boot (which is easiest on windows 8 and 8.1) is if you see the motherboard logo during bootup or the Windows logo. If you see the Windows logo, Windows is not installed in UEFI mode.

It sounds like you've got UEFI though. The easiest way to get into the bios is with the Fast Boot app, like I said in the previous post.
