I'm currently running a Gigabyte 990fxa UD3 (rev 1.1)mobo. I'm wondering if I can run an FX 9370 with this mobo at all or if i HAVE to upgrade to a newer model?

Looks to me only rev 4 boards are compatible!

Max. 125 Watt processors:

GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket AM3+ - GA-990XA-UD3 (rev. 1.x)

For native 220 Watt FX-9370 and FX-9590 support there is currently only one option:

GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket AM3+ - GA-990FXA-UD3 (rev. 4.0)
