970 G1 Gaming 37 C Idle 78 C load normal??!?!
« on: May 10, 2015, 12:00:30 pm »
Hello Gigabyte community!
I recently have purchased a 970 G1 Gaming. I always play at 1080p and ultra graphics quality with 8xMFAA usually. Always smooth and normal FPS like any other 970 G1s. However my temperature at load reaches to 78 C... is this OK? (My case has 5 working fans BTW)
I think maybe it is because my card was manufactured in China :( ... Those that are manufactured in Germany for example never get above 65C ...

Hey! Well if you consider that that the chip is capable of over 95 degrees Celsius then 78 isn´t that high. You said you have five (5) fans i your case well thats a lot, but how does they flow in your case? I hope you get cold air from the front and low side, and vent it out on back and on top?!

About the china thing how can you control where its from? I have a G1 GTX970 and there is nothing that says where its made? By the way my card sits in an Fractal Design Define R3 case and never gets over 70 degrees Celsius. Its around 32 dergrees in idle with my modded own bios to 900 RPM on the fans. Dead silent. :)

Hi m8 thanks for response.

I don't exactly remember how I found out it was from China.. I think it was written on it's box.

Yes two intakes on the front and three exhausts at top and behind the case ...
This is my case: http://www.green-case.com/products/case/midi/case.php?model=X4_Hexagon

I have no problem with noise either.. it's very quiet even at mid night even on load. However 78 C worries me ... maybe I should setup another fan at bottom of my case? Is it possible that one of three fans of my card could not be working?

BTW my fans speed is 1620 RPM atm and temp is 38! All I am running atm is three tabs on firefox!

Hello again!

I found the problem! It was Gigabyte's OC GURU II utility which had automatically set allowed max temp to 79 C! I changed that to 65 C and now my temp never reaches above 65! I wonder why gigabyte had set it to 79 ...

If you look at OC Guru II default settings that's what it is set at. Power 100% and temp 79 degrees as the target, no idea why they choose these settings as a default point but they have.

Should not be a problem at those settings though, temp of card will depend on several things such as demand (how hard it's being pushed by the application/game) and heat dissipation qualities of your computers case design and/or fans etc.

Some people think tons of fans means extra cooling but it really depends on how well they are set-up. I like to have slightly positive pressure in my builds but you still need good amount of exhaust.

I use default settings on my G1 970 gaming, fans are fairly quiet and seem to run under 1600rpm 90% of the time and idle temp is  around 22c to 28c and max temp I have seen while gaming has been 56c. I run a dual 29" ultra-wide monitor set-up which equals 5120 x 1080p.

Case is a Corsair 750D
