How to get SATA AHCI on GA-P67A-UD4-B3.

How to get AHCI switched on.

Motherboard:-
Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD4-B3 Rev 1.1
BIOS F8

OS:-
Windows 7 Ultimate SP1

Registry:-
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\
msahci Start = 0
isStorV Start = 0

BIOS values changed:-
Integrated Peripherals
PCH SATA Control Mode   From IDE to AHCI
SATA Port0-3 Native Mode   Tried both Enabled and Disabled
Advanced Bios Features
Hard Disk Boot Priority      Corrected after changed by system to start with SSD.

Physical SATA connections:-
SATA3_0      eSATA (front panel) – NOT USED.
SATA3_1      WD 500GB (Virtual J: to P: drives)
SATA2_2      Kingston 64GB SSD (OS C: drive)
SATA2_3      Samsung DVD
SATA2_4      Samsung 1.5TB (Virtual D: to I: drives)
SATA2_5      LG CD/DVD

Problem:-
This is a 4 year old system that has always been in SATA IDE mode.
I have now spent over 3 days (almost nonstop per day) trying to change the SATA mode from IDE to AHCI.
I have almost come to the conclusion that it is impossible with this motherboard. (A design flaw?)

So my initial question is CAN THIS BE ACHIEVED with this motherboard?
I have looked on the web and can find no evidence that it has been done.
If somebody with a similar setup could let me know it is possible, that would encourage me to keep trying.
