GA-F2A88X-UP4 + Athlon X4 860K issue with RAM 4 sticks installed
« on: September 24, 2015, 03:43:01 pm »
I am using Ga-F2A88X-UP4 with AMD Athlon X4 860K and having problem when I try to install 4 sticks of Corsair Dominator GT DDR3 2133MHz (4x4GB) all together, my system keep freezing sometime while I was working on my computer but when I reduced the ram to only 2 sticks, everything was fine never get frozen no matter how long I was using the computer.  I have swap them in a pair and they all worked fine and have tried all slots.

I have only enable XMP profile 1 in bios to get those ram running at 2133MHz and never touch anything else about ram and cpu.
Could anyone please give me some solution or advice to solve this problem.
Thank you very much.

There are boards out there which only serve 2 ram slots full speed - try 1866 speed and see if it helps. Check your manual for details.

Thank you AgentFXA I have tried to set the rams to run on 1866 without XMP and my computer is now running fine for 2 days without any freeze.
Is there any way to config the board to run 4 stick at 2133MHz?
Is this issue regards the memory controller inside the cpu?
Thanks everyone.

There is apparently a latency issue with 4 ram sticks (bank switching) - there is no clear answer to what's the core problem. You might be able to fix it by tinkering with the ram clock cycles but it's not worth it since the speed difference between 1866/2133 is neglectable.

I would change ram to 4x 1866 (xmp) or 2x 2133 (xmp) and be happy :)

Shine_guy,
What BIOS rev are you running?  F4 and later includes improved memory compatibility.

Yes, I think so.  Yesterday I changed the motherboard to Asus Crossblade Ranger with the same setup and found out that the new motherboard can handle 2133 MHz 4 sticks just one click in bios without any problem till now. I will find out with Gigabyte Thailand about what's wrong with my board, defective board or this is just board limitation.  Thank you everyone.  But still want to hear from other experience regarding GA-F2A88X-UP4 with 4 sticks running at 2133MHz or above.
