Gigabyte X99m Gaming 5 not starting, error 6F

Gigabyte X99m Gaming 5 not starting, error 6F
« on: September 27, 2015, 02:00:20 pm »
I have just purchased this motherboard and I cannot get the computer to start. I have error code 6F on the LED debug, which is "Reserved" according to the manual so I cannot debug. The error appears ont the LED for a few seconds, then the board resets and the same error comes up.

Removing the graphics card, I get the same error code.

If I remove all the RAM, leaving just the CPU and fan, I get error 53, which is Memory Initialisation Errors according to the manual.

I have HyperX HX426C15FBK4/32 memory. I have tried various combinations of memory; all 4, only 1, only 2, in the slots indicated in the motherboard.

I've reseated the CPU (a 5820k) and checked the pins, I could see nothing bent.

All components are new.

Thank you in advance.

I'm having no luck, I can't get it going. Error 6F with the RAM in (1 or 4, it makes no difference), and I get the exact same code if I unplug the CPU cooler.

I need to know if it's RAM, CPU or motherboard so I know what to return.....

Re: Gigabyte X99m Gaming 5 not starting, error bF

Actually I now believe the error code is bF, not 6F, I was reading it wrong.

bF is also "Reserved" in the manual with no explanation  :o

Here are my computer specs:
CPU- i7-5930k,RAM- Kingston Fury 16GB (2x8) 2666MHz,GPU- Asus GTX 980TI,PSU- Corsair 750w,SSD- Samsung 850EVO 500gb,HDD- WD Black 1TB. I don't think cpu and case fans are relevant.
There are no short circuits, no beeps, everything seems to start just fine. Yes the cables are connected correctly, I've even doubted my pc building skills and took the thing to a computer service, they didn't find a solution either.
Me and possible future customers would really appreciate a solution for the "bF" issue.
PLEASE HELP!

Ok, I've solved it. For anyone that still encounters this problem, it's the RAM, I've bought a new 4gb DDR4 2133MHz RAM module, flashed BIOS to the latest version (4b) and after that it booted with 16gb(2x8) DDR4 2666MHz RAM.

I had the same issue with Kingston HyperX Fury RAM, because DDR4 maxes out at 2133 MHz frequency stock-spec (all of the manufacturer specs past that are stock overclocks) they won't always be stable or POST at their stock speeds, you have to play around, which sucks because it won't give you a BIOS if this is the problem. When I had this error, I had four 8gb Kingston HyperX Fury DDR4-2666 modules installed, I installed one stick of DDR4-2133 into DDR_4_3_1B, from there I was able to use the UEFI to force the settings to use 2400MHz and it worked fine after I reinstalled the DDR4-2666 (running at 2400mhz vice 2666mhz). Still playing with it to see how far it can go, but apparently stock overclocked memory modules are unreliable on this board (I don't think this is Gigabyte's problem).
