GA-EX58-EXTREME momory upgrade
« on: October 06, 2015, 12:59:01 am »
Hello to everyone,

Noob question here. I am using GA-EX58-EXTREME motherboard and I want to buy new memory modules but I'm not sure which one is compatible and what is the maximum capacity of a single module that can be installed in slot.

In supported memory brochure it says there are just three modules each 1GB under 1866 MHz, really 1GB?
I found Kingston HyperX FURY 4GB 1866MHz DDR3 which is relatively cheap comparing to older 1066 and 1333 MHz modules but to be honest there aren't any modules left to buy under 1600 MHz in my country. Everything above 1066 MHz on this list says it has to be an XMP memory. It doesn't say anywhere on HyperX FURY XMP, or any other module I've been looking. Also, will it work in dual channel?

Thanks!

says max memory for that board is 24 gigs which means 4 gigs per slot. so 4 gig sticks should work. It works in triple channel.

Thanks for your reply.

I got this answer from Gigabyte:

So if memory is 1600-2100 MHz it only works in one channel. They said I always test it before buying it and they don't know if HyperX works because there are too many modules on the market currently. So for me is kinda unrealistic to test it and return it to seller. Maybe to purchase it and than ask for a refund is what they thought. Of course if the dealer is kind and agrees to receive unpacked used kits, which is quite a gamble.

I found this older G SKILL Ripjaws 1333 MHz kits that will work in a triple channel set-up (if it works at all) but it is more expensive than newer 1600-1866 MHz kits. On my motherboard box it says supports for 3 channel memory with 50% bandwidth increase to 192 bits. So I'm curious would it be more beneficial to go for older 1333 MHz in dual-triple channel and over-clock it or to go straight for 1600-1866 MHz kits. Will single channel cause bottleneck to 1800 MHz memory?

I would go for the 1333 and run it in triple channel. You wont see any difference if you put in other ram. And of course your machine will be stable with 1333.
