X99M Gaming 5 memory frequency

Hi I setup my new x99m board yesterday. I have problems running my memory at anything above 2666MHz. I am running everything at default settings, only XMP enabled, BLCK frequency is 100Hz. Interestingly there was only one xmp profile. I am not touching the timings, just the multiplier. Although the board is advertised to support 2800, and I have seen 3000+ setups, I cannot get a successful boot on anything above 2666. I updated the BIOS to F4b, no joy same issues.
Here is my setup:
Memory .: 4x4GB G.Skill F4-3200C16Q-16GVK
Product Name: GA-X99M-Gaming 5 (1.0)
BIOS Ver: F4b
GPU: EVGA 980 Kingpin
CPU: 5820k
Operation System: Win 7 64-bit
Power Supply: Silverstone SFX 600W

I've got about the same setup and get about the same.

Attempting to use the memory's 3000 XMP profile results in the BIOS resetting to default. At 2666 it boots but occasionally, will reset again. I still have a copy of Gigabyte's downloadable memory support list showing support for 3000mhz memory sticks (That's why I bought 3000), but now their list only shows 2800 and still has problems at that speed.

I just run it at lower speeds since I'm not a big overclocking guy and this computer runs all my games just fine.

I knew I am not the only one!!     ;)
To be honest 2666, 2800, 3000 and 3200 rated memory kits were all within 10£ margin so.. I thought yolo why not get the 3200. I did read Gigabyte's specification for this product and they did advertise it with 3000(O.C.). This is the first time I face limitation from motherboard point of view. Usually the memory DIMMs are the limiting factor when it comes to O.C. Although I know that the real world difference between 2666 and 3200 will be minor, I specifically bought this motherboard because of Gigabytes robustness. I am not going to push the system 100% all of the time but man when I hit that button I want all the horsepower I've paid for to be available. I went a little bit overkill on the water cooling side, got a brand new 980 Kingpin for the price of a reference and I am fitted micro ATX inside heavily modified portable EVGA mini ITX chassis.. too many milestones were achieved, if I cannot figure this one out I will probably get EVGA Micro 2. Who apparently have better technical and customer support.

I had this issue with my rig and found out the problem is in the cpu.. You will have to overclock the cpu and even then you might not be able to achieve 3000mhz the higher speeds of ddr4 ram are really intended for the next gen processors that come out later this year.. But try overclocking your cpu and see where that gets you

The other thing is understand you just can't drop in the memory and use XMP. The memory has support XMP for it to work. If they don't you have to do what Schwags said to do.

On previous computers, that's EXACTLY what you did with no problems. The manufactures worked out a over-clock that worked and called it ExtremeMemoryProfile (XMP).

Now you have to be a electrical engineer and fiddle with all the settings. That's fine for some, but I would rather spend my time USING the computer and not spend a bunch of time on trial and error.

Yes it was like that years ago. Drop memory and plug and play. Years ago they only put on the box what the CPU would support and maybe a couple of ones you could OC.

But to day it is different because they having you thinking that my board can support faster memory like 3000. I'm going to buy that memory because it will make my computer run really fast. "NOT"

People you are really losing performance with faster memory all it is today is a selling point. Been doing this too many years to play their games. The XMP mode has been around for years.

It is the memory that is just starting to catch up with the boards. It is getting to a point that one of these days we don't have to do any thing to OC my computer.  It will do it for you Turbo & XMP mode. 

You don't have to spend a bunch of time on trial and error. Just by what the CPU really supports. But if you want that faster memory and it isn't XMP memory you will be spending a bunch of time on trial and error.

It says it right in the book that you have to have memory that will support XMP Mode for it to run in XMP Mode.
