It should work because there has been people on here that have used a pcie m.2 adapter card on a X58 boards.

Would you happen to know if they used NVmE or AHCI?

Or would it not matter?

Here I found it and you could PM them and ask them how they set it up. Plus your board doesn't support NVmE. But you will have to set the controller to AHCI for a SSD.

Ok I have recieved the cards and its just not working.

It doesnt work in my PCIe 3.0 socket either, at all.

"Invalid system disk" even if my fully funtionall hdd is plugged in at same time, bootable usb or bootable DVD is inserted.

In my PCIe 2.0 socket if im running windows on my old HDD, I can read, write, partition and delete partition so I know the drive works.

When I insert bootable media (Tried USB and DVD) I get an error message, "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computers hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computers BIOS menu.

Another error message on a different screen, "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the Setup log files for more information".

Setup does successfully create/delete a simple volume.

Does this sound like a BIOS setting?

A driver problem?

I don't understand why it works in Windows fine if it is the BIOS setting.

Thanks in advance.

Ben.

Are you running BIOS rev F5, 6 or 7?  All of these support  - (Improve PCIE-E compatibility) which may or may not help?

There is also a small chance the card you've chosen could have compatibility issues (pretty slim though)

My SSD is the ACHI version.

Ok, so last night i tried to be clever.

I installed windows to a spare hard drive and cloned to SSD.

Still doesnt work.

Ive finally got my head around the BIOS (its a colourful GUI, im used to some crappy DOS looking thing)

And the SSD isnt showing in the boot device list.

:(

Hi,
Please tell us the model of the card/adapter you are using as well as the SSD?

I'll have a look at it later today.

Yep thats the one, im plugging it into my PCIe x4 slot. Its v2.0, but ive seen a review of someone using it like that.

I would like to plug it into my PCIe x16 slot v3.0, but im guessing that slot is only for gfx cards as it doesnt work in that port and also seems to disable all my SATA connections too
