I have an ga z97x gaming 7 with the following problem :

When I shut down the computer ( tell windows to shut down ) and leave the power on the computer everything is ok ( the orange power button on the mainboard will stay on ) and I can start the computer again without any problems.

But when after shutting down I unplug or switch of the main supply the orange button will go out ( normal , no power ) but when I plug in or switch on the main supply again the button will stay of and the computer will not start any more

the solution is to take off the atx power connector from the mainboard and reconnect it one or  several times and then the power button light up again and the computer works without any problems again

- replace the power supply wit a new one ( tested it on different systems and is OK , old supply was also OK )
- changed memory
- checked the connectors , all ok
- checked external cabels , mouse , display port ,hdmi , power .......... all ok
- flashed bios with new revisions f5 , f6 last try was f7 beta but problem still the same

Am I missing something or might it be a main board problem , as I say as long as I leave the power supply switched on and not take off the main supply (220V) the computer works perfect

hope that there i an easy solution for this .

Wow.  Very obscure behavior guys.  Open the case to reset...  What a PITA. Have either of you tried changing the BIOS setting what to do after AC Power Failure?  I think its AC Back >Try changing from Stay Off to Last State or Power On.  Not optimal, but may suffice as a work around.

I understand, but by changing the AC Back settings, does it change the behavior of the buttons after the power is restored? Example make BIOS change, save... then turn the PSU button off/on.

Hello

just  did a full bios reset ( clear cmos ) after that loaded defaults made the changes I need  ( boot from uefi and M2 )
After this still the same take the power of and put it back not possible to boot first remove cables try a few times and it boots again

power setting was after power loss stay off , also tried last state and restore power but all the same

I am getting a bit fustrated with this board and suspect it is faulty but if I have to RMA it I might just buy a different brand .
I will wait some more and try some other settings , see if there might be another solution .....

Just tried something , removed power and battery left it for 5 minutes put battery back and tried to power it again but same problem : no power

removed the atx connector replaced it still nothing so checked again all external cables ( take one out put atx connector back )
what I found out is that when I took out one of the usb 3 cables for an external 2,5"hd power would come back so for the moment it seem solved  ( hdd was not attached when booting only a cable )
I will see in the next days , what I don't understand is that the cable is not damaged and working 100% when I use it so I can not believe the problem is gone but I will see and hope

And for our information...  is the USB drive you disconnected powered or unpowered externally?  And, is the port connected to a MB header or one of the 3.0 ports on the back of the case?

It was one of the usb 3 port on the back of the computer ( lower ones ) but the strange thing was the drive was not connected only the cable so this should not be an issue

but if the computer was running the port and cable work normal , connected a 2,5"hdd to in usb powered ( only 1 usb connector )

for the moment the problem is still gone.....

Have you tried the exact same set-up but with a different USB cable connected to the same USB port? Have you also tried using the same cable and/or a different USB cable with the external device connected?

connected a mouse to the same port and no problem , put the usb cable back and no power .....

connected the same usb cable to a front usb with hd and no problem

so I don't know but for now it is ok for me , if you have the same problem start checking usb connections and cables and see if it works for you also

Have the exact same issue. Was good to find some others who also have it.

It seems to be related to the USB power part of the ATX. Or 5v maybe? I will try the trick of unplugging any external usb memory sticks or hdd's next time it happens and see how that goes.
