Windows 10 Anniversary Update broke bluetooth

Windows 10 Anniversary Update broke bluetooth
« on: September 03, 2016, 01:25:26 am »
Hello this is my first post. I have a gigabyte ga z170N gaming 5 motherboard. I just purchased one of the new xbox wireless controller with bluetooth. Apparently you HAVE to be on the anniversary update for it to work so I just updated to that. However after the update, my bluetooth does not work. I have tried just about everything and am at a loss. When I roll back the driver it seems to work but can not detect any devices. It was working before the anniversary update just fine. Has anyone had similar issues?

Right-click on that entry and select uninstall from the context menu.

Then rescan for hardware changes.  Does it get picked back up and does it run now?

OK...  Please run SFC /scannow from an elevated command prompt. Then restart.

Are you using the BT driver from Gigabyte 18.1.1510.x?

I just pre-ordered the Xbox One S Gears Of War 4 2TB SE bundle...  So I'll probably be using one of these too.   :)

Windows 10 BT support has been mediocre at best.  I think you can safely roll back and continue using your controller.

Getting the Anniversary update build 1607:

I have 4-5 PC's running 10 and all are still on 1511_10586.  Only have probs on one and you guessed it..  it's this old Asus with BT.

Are you using the BT driver from Gigabyte 18.1.1510.x?

I am on driver 19.0.1621.3340 I can not roll back drivers it will not let me. Even when I uninstall and run the 18.1.1510 setup program it reinstalls it with the 19.0.1621 version.

I already was on the anniversary update so Im not sure why youre advising me how to upgrade. I rolled back to the 1151 build and bluetooth is somewhat working now. I was able to connect my phone to my PC via bluetooth and send a file back and forth. However whenever I connect the xbox controller, it appears to connect but not send or recieve any information. It will just continue blinking as if it is pairing.

As you can see it looks like its connected but its really not. The controller works on my laptop running win10 1607 build so im really at a loss here. Im just about to give up and return the damn thing. Its not worth hours and hours of hassle trying to get it work.

I suggested that you investigate rolling back because you said it was working prior to the Anniversary Update.  I did some reading as well, and see that MS wants you to be running the Anniversary Update (release notes), but I wonder if its really needed.  What about a wireless option.  I thought the BT/Wireless controller was about $60.  Probably more reliable too.  System File Checker came back clean.  That's good.  On an aside, the BT device in DM...  you can't roll it back to the previous driver??  Or, another option when uninstalling a device in DM..  you should be given the option (checkbox) to uninstall the driver for the device as well.  So when you right-click and select uninstall from the context menu, you get the option to remove the driver as well.  Reboot after and then try running the older installer.  Failing that, you're at MS's mercy.  At that point, I'd probably move to the cable, try wireless dongle or just return it. I'm like you.  Give it a chance, take reasonable steps to make it work, but will return when you have tried and are having to spend hours jumping through hoops.

Low and behold after I posted this morning, one of my laptops got the Anniversary Update.  The update blue screened while it was installing, then went into a crazy recovery.  Took about 20 minutes, and I had to reactivate office.  Seems to be fine now.  I don't get my one S until next month.  I haven't played Gears Of War for a long while.  Kind of cool that you can play it on xbox and any W10 PC.

Yeah for some reason they want you to be on the anniversary update, but doing so disables my BT driver. Yes I completely uninstall the driver and reboot. But when I go to install a previous version I get a prompt telling me it wont let me downgrade to a previous driver. Id probably have to delete some registry values or something, but it's not worth the hassle. As of now I have just given up lol. I'm like you I wont fight something beyond reason. I am shipping it back to amazon and getting Battlefield 1 pre ordered instead.

Ive played gears a little bit, I really enjoyed Gears 3's horde mode with friends. Hopefully they will allow cross platform play more in the future. I have several relatives who only play on xbox. UWP scares me though, as most of their launches have been complete disasters so far. I'm glad they are coming to their senses and considering putting MS titles back on steam like with Quantum Break.  The one game I am really looking forward to from them is Forza Horizons 3. That franchise is so much fun, but If i get to play on my PC with my logitech wheel I will be in heaven. So Im hoping that game will have good wheel support and PC options/performance.

Thanks for trying to help out. Maybe intel or gigabyte will fix the issue in the future but for now it looks like it just wont work.

I just updated the PC I have BT on to 1607_14393 Anniversary.  I'm still a month away before I'll have a xbox controller  to try.
