GA-970A-DS3P - Unable to manually change RAM frequency
« on: September 27, 2016, 01:17:29 pm »
Specs:
GA-970A-DS3P Rev. 1.0 (BIOS version F2j)
AMD FX-8320 Black Edition (8 Core / 3.5GHz)
Corsair Vengeance LP - 4 X 8 GB - DDR3-1866 - PC3-15000 (CML32GX3M4A1866C10)

Hi

I wonder if anyone can please help.

I've installed the above 32GB kit into the motherboard and enabling the only XMP profile in the BIOS, taking the frequency up to 1886MHZ causes there to be memory issues (BSOD, fail in memory diagnostics).

It's been suggested that I downclock the frequency to 1600MHz and use the standard timings of the modules. I've disabled XMP and the frequency defaults to 1334MHz, but all of the buttons are locked to AUTO and I can't manually alter the frequency or the timings.

Is there any way I can unlock these AUTO buttons and enter stuff manually?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Mark

Hello,

In your BIOS are there 2 places for you to adjust the frequency?

  • Advanced Frequency settings
  • Advanced Memory settings

In the Advanced memory settings use the mouse to press on the box then type the value, does this change it?
If not can you use the screenshot feature when in the BIOS, insert a flash drive and press F12.
Then we can see what is going on.

Plan B

Clear the CMOS: Unplug the PC's AC supply then push the PC case's power button to drain the capacitors in the power supply and on the motherboard before clearing the CMOS as per the motherboard manual's instructions.

1600MHz max. when using 4 DIMMs with an AM3+ CPU:

There's no practical difference in performance between 1866MHz and 1600MHz RAM:

Referring to page 18 of manual

Extreme Memory Profile (X.M.P.)
[Disabled] Disables this function. (Default)

System Memory Multiplier
Allows you to set the system memory multiplier. Auto sets memory multiplier according to memory SPD
data. (Default: Auto)

Change to x8.00

x9.33 is for 1866MHZ
x8.00 is for 1600MHz.
x6.66 is for 1333MHz
