Upgrade to GTX 1070 Xtreme Gaming Power Supply Question

Upgrade to GTX 1070 Xtreme Gaming Power Supply Question
« on: September 29, 2016, 12:04:37 pm »
Hello,

I have a GTX 970 G1 Gaming Graphic Card and I want to upgrade it to GTX 1070 Xtreme Gaming. I saw the specs of both cards and my question is: Is there a difference between Recommended PSU of both cards? GTX 970 have 550W(with one 6-pin and one 8-pin external power connectors) and GTX 1070 have 500W ( WITH One 8-Pin and One 6-Pin EXTERNAL POWER CONNECTOR). I want to know if I upgrade to GTX 1070 should I do something else except to remove GTX 970 and place 1070?

Thank you in advance.

The following is general advice for all cards.

Your PSU should be rated at or above the minimum wattage recommended for your GPU
The PSU should have an amperage rating at or above the required minimum for the card (12v) rail.

Its best to uninstall the existing drivers, shutdown, remove old card, install new one then restart and install drivers for the new card.

The new architecture of the 1070 yields 20-45fps (depending on res) over the 970.  Not to shabby.   :)
