X99 SLI | IRQ Problems | Music Producers Heads Up
« on: January 13, 2017, 12:53:24 pm »
Last July I upgraded to the Gigabyte X99 SLI, before that I had the Gigabyte Sniper 5 with no problems, as a music producer I prefer to use a Firewire Audio Card, on the Gigabyte Sniper I had no problems with a Firewire card inserted into the PCI 8 slot.

After upgrading to the Gigabyte X99 SLI the Firewire card would not work, in device manager it reported no problems with the connection, however when you ran audio through it, it would cut out and eventually blue screen. There was an obvious IRQ problem, I could not seem to fix it and moved on to a USB 2 audio devices which is far from perfect after using Firewire for so long.

Yesterday I ran a search on google and now there are a handful of Gigabyte X99 owners reporting the EXACT SAME ISSUE, I then decided to revisit the problem and out of curiosity decided to insert the Firewire card (Texas instrument chip set) into the PCIE 16 slot as used by graphics cards and it worked flawlessly with no problems.
Out of curiosity as I am in an SLI config I loaded up a game to ensure there was no bandwidth conflicts and the game seemed fine.

So if you are a music producer and using this board it seems it has an IRQ problem so use the 16 slot if you have one spare...
