Intermitting freeze during boot (GA-X170-EXTREME ECC)
« on: March 01, 2017, 05:03:05 pm »
Hello all!

I have a strange problem with my freshly built PC: Every now and then it freezes during windows 10 boot (where the boot animation appears). When this started occuring i remember seeying a bluescreen that said 'Machine Check Exception'. Unfortunately, no further LOG was written. Probably because the system was halted by the CPU due to this exception. Another strange this i noticed is that when this happens the system does not react on the hardware reset switch - which usually works, meaning that its at least physically connected. How could that be explained?

Things i tried:

-Checked temperatures of CPU, Mainboard etc.
-Checked voltages
-Different boot device. First thought it might be an NVME SSD problem, but no...
-Reinstalled OS several times
-Didnt install any additional drivers (sound, chipset, etc)
-Reset BIOS (tried beta BIOS also, but didnt change anything)
-Turned off different BIOS features

I have the feeling that when it doesnt work and i turn off the onboard Sound chip, it will likely boot on next try. This is why im guessing its a hardware problem from the mainboard.

Any suggestions?

Edit: Now i also had the problem with the sound chip off and it still happened, so that was not causing the issue.
