GA-Z270X-Gaming 7 with Plextor 512Gb M.2 NVMe SSD
« on: March 16, 2017, 12:30:17 pm »
Hello.
I have the Gigabyte GA-Z270X-Gaming 7 motherboard and Plextor PX-512M8PeG NVMe SSD detailed here
http://www.goplextor.com/Product/Detail/M8Pe%28G%29#/Spec

I have windows 10 64 bit installed on this ssd.  The ssd initialises and boots windows 10 just fine and the performance seems also as expected.

The issue is that if I go into the Gigabyte bios NVMe menu, the bios says "no NVME devices found."

I have tried the Plextor SSD in both motherboard M2 slots. I had the issue with both the Gigabyte F3 and F4 version bios.

Does anyone have this motherboard with an NVME device plugged in and do you see this behaviour in the bios also ?

Not sure if this drive is on the QVL..  Didn't see an NvME list..

If I had to guess, I'd say its the drive.  Other options:

I saw FW 1.05, but I strongly caution you regarding upgrade.  If your system is working....  I wouldn't upgrade the MB BIOS or FW on the drive unless you are absolutely sure it will fix or address an issue.  If you are getting expected I/O from the drive, I'd stay where you are.  Your call.

Thank you for your suggestion. So the system is otherwise running absolute fine as I mention. I am getting 2.4Gbytes/sec sequential read performance reported by CrystalDiskMark in windows 10 which matches drive expectations, so this appears to be more of a bios issue. I raised it with Gigabyte they said they are passing it to the bios team. You are right there isnt an NVMe list from Gigabyte that I have seen. My inspiration for the choice of NVMe came from this video..

I would also be curious for answers to this question I mention:
