GA-MA78GM Memory POST

GA-MA78GM Memory POST
« on: April 10, 2009, 06:17:10 pm »
My system has GA-M768 MB with AMD x64 6000 and 8 gig of ddr2 800 mem.
when powerup it takes >2 min to do s memory POST.
I suspect memory problem but microsoft memtest runs error free.
this long post time started last week and had run for two or three months with a short POST time.
Any hints?

I think it could be something in the BIOS. It might have been doing a short memory test before, then somehow the option has been changed so it checks the memory more thoroughly during POST.

Update--  I swapped the memory dimms around and problem is gone.Noted that Microsoft Mem test checks only 4 gig.

Strange, so what was the cause then? I don't see how unless it made it work dual channel instead of single that swapping them would make it faster?
