ga-73pvm-s2h help with drivers
« on: June 24, 2010, 07:24:57 am »
just reloaded windows xp sp2. now  the usb ports and the ethernet ports do not work. i tried using the disk that came with the motherboard but somehow something did not go right. i have yellow question marks next to the ethernet controller and the sm bus controller in the device manager. so i do not have internet on that computer, but the dsl modem still works so here i am on this laptop. how do i get this resolved?

so i ended up reloading windows xp again. everything is fine except i still have no usb ports working. and i guess that i forgot to mention that i updated the bios from f1 to f8 before when i still had everything working. could it be the bios? and what can i do to get the usb ports working?

If you had said that you were using a MAC I wouldn't have talked to you ;D
We always need as much information as possible when trying to help because even small things can have an impact on the problem. Your BIOS update could quite possibly have a bearing on your problem with the USB ports lack of function. I haven't actually noticed anybody else complaining of this but it seems possible. Did you do a straight jump from BIOS F1 to F8? It is recommended that you do it in smaller updates at a time, eg F1 to F4 and then to F8. Personally I don't see why the need for this because they are not supposed to be incremental but stand alone code. I would definitely check your BIOS settings and see if everything to do with the uSB ports looks ok.
