Anyone else having trouble booting from USB flash or DVD on the SB EFI upgrade? My Windows install crashed after a few days of running smoothly so I popped in my RW discs which I thought might still have bootable rescue tools I've written to them some time earlier but it appered I've erased them. But then on a whim I tried to boot from the USB flash drive I used for the EFI upgrade, not written to since, and noted I couldnt boot from it and started wondering whether the issue is "chronic"(perhaps EFI boot interface is required on boot media). Writing this from my moms PC on the other side of town....

Typing from PartedMagic. The screen simply goes blank for half a minute after booting from USB flash. Meltdown averted.

Didn't notice my post got split. As an update on my progress with U1B on Z68XP UD4:

My Windows install disc wouldnt start and I had to install from a USB drive. Oddly If I tried a EFI boot from the Windows 7 disc it did start but as some will know the disc is not really set up for EFI install so I couldnt proceed. Another oddity is that boot-time defrag in Perfectdisk defragmenter makes the screen go blank now. I already mentioned Speedfan crashes the system in the main beta bios thread.

All in all I'm eagerly waiting for an new version or means to revert to legacy BIOS. Should I contact GGTS?

Hi

You could certainly try contacting GGTS but as far as I am aware the answer will be that there is no way back at present. If you hear any different please let us know.

I got my replacement SSD at the weekend, and I wanted to install Windows so that it would take advantage of the native UEFI firmware of my Sandy Bridge motherboard. Booting the installer from the DVD will apparently boot you straight in EFI mode as you'd expect (I don't have Windows on disc so I wouldn't know). However, if you create a USB boot drive for the Windows 7 installer, the system will only boot in BIOS mode, and the installer will not let you install in EFI mode to GPT disks.

Don't know if it's the same but I have a similar problem here with XP UD4 @ U1G :
Screen "blank" (miine goes black-no signal) with Acronis TIH 2011 and 2012 bootable media (USB and CD) after showing the main menu of acronis. Never happened before.

Noticed that with acronis burned onto a cd I have a "UEFI TssT SH...etc" AND a "P4 : TssT SH...etc" listed in boot menu.
Instead, with the same acronis onto a USB device , I have only the "P4: generic USB .." option, not the "UEFI bla bla" anymore.

I'm on U1G right now and like on U1B I'm having issues booting DOS from a USB flash drive. Whats worse is that with the UEFI update I'm getting bluescreens in Windows and because of the DOS boot issue I can't use the efi2awd tool to revert to F6. Angry

EDIT:Boot time defrag in Perfectdisk also makes the screen go blank.

EDIT2: UBCD blanks the screen as well. Curiously Windows 7 install and Linux based disks work fine.

Actually the the Windows 7 install disk is quite interesting on UEFI. The initial screen "press any key" screen is blank, but once you press any key the screen comes back.  Make sure to enable port 60/64 option in UEFI.

Here's how I returned to Award BIOS from UEFI. Download efi2awd(Check two post down if you can't download the attachment)
Follow the instructions and add a line to autoexec.bat on the DOS boot drive simmilar to this:
efi2awd M0D3L.VSN
I recommend Rufus USB creator.

And please report any bugs you encounter to GGTS, I can't belive how many were left over in the official UEFI update compared to the beta posted at Tweaktown 10 weeks ago.

I can't believe it, still no updates after U1G despite serious bugs. So sad to see EFI development abandoned. I expected more from GB. Sad
