GA-890FXA-UD5 new build problem
« on: July 03, 2010, 03:00:14 pm »
I just put together a GA-890FXA-UD5 with an AMD Phenom II X6 processor.  I am not getting a beep on startup and no display.  I cleared the CMOS, the CMOS light is on when I power up.  All fans are working.  Could someone suggest where I might look to troubleshoot further.  This is my fifth build, but its been a couple of years since the last one.  Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi,

This kind of problem in a new build can be very frustrating. If you could post with more details (see here for the kind of thing that would help: http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,2195.msg10772.html#msg10772 ) it would be easier to offer some advice.

Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

Also to add to VenGanZa's post don't forget the extra power to the graphics card as well.

That was it.  THanks to all for the suggestions.  BTW, what is a 4/8 pin?

The 4/8 pin that VenGanZa was talking about is the EATX extra power lead that fits in a socket by the CPU. On some boards it's four pin and others it's eight. Anyway glad to have helped.

Haven't we all. It doesn't seem to matter how long you have been building and faultfinding you can still make some of the most stupid mistakes.

Ditto Now have a new ATI4850 Graphics card due to one such mistake. Guess who felt I right idiot!  :-[

Still, on the bright side, I did need a decent spare card for testing!!  :D

That's the way I try to look at it. Put a positive spin on it and make out it was intentional ;)

Your're right I love building but I am more to the side of customising and watercooling systems etc. Nothing like getting a nice new case and then getting the chainsaw out and....

It's taken you this long? :-\
I can't help it if I like chopping things up :o
Seriously though I do enjoy making something more personalised. I get excited when I hjave a new project in mind and the more cutting and building it takes the better, especially if I can add a bit of bling(in a tasteful way of course)
