GA-73PVM-S2H Surround sound problem

GA-73PVM-S2H Surround sound problem
« on: July 06, 2010, 01:25:46 pm »
Hiya all, this is the first time I've posted on these boards. I've had this problem for a fair while now, and I'm hoping to finally get it sorted.

System Details:

O/S: Windows Vista (32 bit)
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 2.4GHz
RAM: 3.00GB

Problem Details: I have a 5.1 surround sound system, and whilst playing music it is fine, however, under the RealtekHD Audio Manager when I test any speakers other than the front left and front right they produce no sound. My subwoofer, center and both left and right rear speakers make no noise whatsoever. The same will happen in a game (which is what I want the surround sound for) if I'm looking directly at another character while they are speaking, they will barely be heard from the front right and front left speakers, and no the center at all. If I look away from them they can be heard clearly through the front speakers (though not the center). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated on how to fix this problem, since it's been plaguing me since I got Vista.

Hi
What settings have you set the speakers up for in the Control Panel/ HD Realtek Audio Centre? It sounds like you have them set up as a stereo pair.

Interestingly enough, I do hvae them set up as a stereo pair at the moment, though that was after the problem began ocurring, the reason I did this is that in some FMV scenes in games one person will be heard when they speak, while another will not, setting them to stereo fixed this problem, though obviously, they didn't work as 5.1 surround sound any more. If possible I'd like to be able to set them back to 5.1 with all sound intact

Try going onto the Realtek site and download the latest drivers for your chip. Uninstall the present drivers first before you install the new ones.
