GA-MA790GP-DS4H Raid issues - faulty board?
« on: August 15, 2010, 02:22:57 pm »
Hello,

I've had the Gigabyte GA-MA790GP-DS4H for over two years and I've always had issues with raiding my hard drives, I had two 160gb velocio raptor which wouldn't raid properly due to blue screen of death.

I assumed it was the hard drives so I sold the drives and eventually bought two 60gb vertex 2E ssd's and tried again yet more blue screen errors  >:( I have changed every other component and tried the raid setup again and still BSOD.

I downloaded the latest drivers every time I under take a install.

Has the motherboard been knackered since I bought it? Or is it a bios issue?

Regards,
Jon

As a matter of interest:
What OS are you running?
What CPU?
What RAM?
What PSU?
What Graphics Card?
Apart from the 2 SSD's are you using any other HDD's and if so what make and model No. are they?
Are you overclocking any components?

What SATA ports have you tried to set up the RAID Array on?
Which RAID  (0,1,5,10) version are you trying to use?
Are you trying to install the OS onto the RAID Array or are you trying to use it just for storage?

Sorry for so many questions but need to understand your set-up and what you are trying to do.

Hi the best link I can get for you is this one: http://www.giga-byte.co.uk/products/product-page.aspx?pid=2887&dl=1#driver You will have to specify the OS that you are using.

The pre-install driver you might need is this one: AMD SATA AHCI Driver (Preinstall driver, press F6 during Windows* setup to read from floppy*) but I am not absolutely certain that you will need it if you are installing Windows 7. * With windows Vista and Windows 7 you can install this driver from a USB stick rather than a floppy drive.

You don't say what type of RAID Array you are trying to install so it is difficult to offer any guidance. The best that I can offer is to tell you to check your Motherboard Manual as the steps for setting up a RAID 0  array in that are pretty clear.

Are you absolutely sure that it is the RAID that is causing the BSODs?

Good point DM as we have discovered over the past few days.
We were both having trouble getting a RAID 0 Array set up on our own respective PC's and it turned out the the HDD's weren't compatible for RAID.

What are your full system specs ?
Are you Overclocking?
