UD7 fails to start, no beep, 2 LEDs on

UD7 fails to start, no beep, 2 LEDs on
« on: August 15, 2010, 11:06:24 pm »
It is very strange but I had been using the system without problems for around 6 months since I bought it. This afternoon, I shut down the system as usual before I went out. However, I couldn't turn on the system when I came back.

When I press the power button, the system is up 1 second before it stops. during that 1 second, I can see CPU fan working and some LEDs lit on. When the system stops, I can see 1 yellow LED and 1 Green LED(immediately next to the yellow LED)  lit on next to the Memory slots. there is no beeper and nothing is on the screen.

I cleared the CMOS and tried again. Same happened. I removed ALL memory (so 6 empty memory slots) and I had same 2 LEDs on (yellow and green).

Does anyone know what these 2 LEDs mean? Any suggestion? The manual says those LEDs next to memory slots are overvoltage DDR LED, Phase LED. But I removed all memory and these 2 LEDs are still on!

Thanks in advance.

Sounds unusual this one. Do you know if you had any sort of power outage or surge of any sort during the time you were out? Ask neighbours etc.
Does sound like a power or heat problem. What PSU are you running? A list of your hardware wouldn't hurt either. Are you using the supplied fan and heatsink that came with the processor? If so make sure that it is stil firmly seated on the motherboard at all four corners.

Thanks Mark!

I had a UPS connected so I think it can handle the power surge etc?

Who's Mark? Anyway how old is the UPS? That is exactly the sort of problem you can get when an UPS goes down. It may be that it needs new batteries. Did you check that the heatsink was firmly attached? Common problem that!
