Hey all,

Recently I've purchased a computer system with Geil DDR3 4GB Value Dual Channel GV34GB1066C7DC. I've experiencing problems since I installed windows 7. I'm getting random BsoD's (mostly at startup) and it seems like the memory is not functioning well on this motherboard ( Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3 ). I've ran the Geil Memory Meter and it says: " Unfortunately the GeIL Memory Meter was not able to identify your current memory modules ". Which is pretty strange because I am using Geil Memory.

I have ran several memory tests (memtest86+, Archor and Prime95) they all error if i use two modules. They do not error if i only use 1 module, but i still experience BsoD's with or without using two modules.

I have checked the memory support list at gigabyte.com and my memory is not listed there, but I do see GV32GB1333C7DC. A note from Gigabyte: " Memory modules listed below are for reference only. Due to massive memory models on the market, we canonly verify some of them."

System information:

Intel Core I5-760
Geil DDR3 4GB Value Dual Channel GV34GB1066C7DC
Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3 ( bios version F9 )
EVGA Geforce GTX 460 SC 768 MB ( latest Nvidia driver)

I'm not much of an overclocker so I have not changed any settings of memory or what so ever. Also this memory does not support XMP (no option in the bios for that).

I hope someone has a solution to make it work,

Thanks in advance,

Hi and welcome to the forum.
You don't say what PSU you have but it is one possible problem. The most likely however is incompatibility of your memory modules. I tried looking on the Geil website but couldn't find any reference to it being compatible with your motherboard. I would advise you to try swapping it out with some other RAM that is known to work.

Thanks for the reply,

My PSU is Aerocool 85-700. I am trying to contact the webshop later on if I can change the memory. I've also contacted Geil Tech support, but no reply so far. This problem is pretty annoying and I see that many people have such problems, sadly.

Yes I am afraid the days of just using any old memory modules seem to be gone. Motherboards are much more picky now about what they will work with.

I have changed the RAM to Kingston KVR1333D3N9K2/4G.  Running memtest86+ v4.10 as we speak. So far no BsoD's -yet-. I will just leave it running for a while.

If Memtest is failing to complete then there is a problem with the memory. Try running just one stick at a time and by doing that at least you will know if it is a faulty module and which one. Let the test do several loops not just one.

Why have you edited your post? You said that memtest failed when you ran it before.

I edit the post because Prime95 and Orthos were giving no errors. So I decided to update my memtest86 to the latest, and now memtest86+ did work as expected.

I've been running my computer for a few days now, and no problems with the memory or BsoD's so far. Thanks for the replys Dark Mantis.

DM, you are so right about the mine field...in the days of DDR2 I never ran into a compatibility issue even once....in this age of DDR3 you can step on a mine just about anywhere....

Glad you guys got this one figured out so quickly!

HI Soar
Nice to see you back participating. That's the problem as things get more complex they get harder to configure.
