On Board H/W Lan in Bios?

I cannot find any definitive information on this and was thinking of disabling it what does it do?

Hi there,

The on-board LAN is the hardware that you would use if you want to create a Local Area Network and in a lot of cases too connect to the internet. If you use a USB modem to connect to the internet you probably don't use this but I wouldn't disable it.
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

You don't say what motherboard you have but don't forget that on many of them there are two LAN ports to disable.

My board only has one.  :'(  I've been robbed!!! :P

I did think it was for the period up to the OS operating but the OS Windows xp pro needs this on. Despitethe network driver in Windows.

So they must need the basic network on board Lan to operate.

Well I quickly found out by disabling it You get no network Lan function

The LAN must be found and configured in the BIOS otherwise it won't be there for Windows to utilise.
