GV-N460OC-1GI display problem
« on: September 02, 2010, 02:37:10 am »
Hi, I'm new to the forum. I got my GV-N460OC-1GI a month ago when i bought a new system. my problem started while playing starcraft2, the screen will go black for 5 - 7 sec and comebacks majority of the display is black and a certain part of the screen with distorted color boxes. I'm unable to capture screen becos the result will be a full black screen. I have to restart the game and continue again, everything will be fine.

The problem got worst after 2 weeks, even at starcraft menu screen everything becomes distorted color and cant read a single thing. i got a crashed report generated by the game saying directx/openGL error. Then i tried my other game Crysis Warhead, same thing happened during gameplay, distorted color boxes.

I upgraded nvidia driver to 258.96 and tried reinstalling starcraft2. the game still have display problem at menu screen.
Here is my PC setup (stocked setup, no OC):
CPU: Intel Core i5 760
MOBO: MSI P55A-G55
RAM: Kingston 4GB DDR3
PSU: HuntKey HK700-52PP 700W
OS: WinXP SP3
DirectX: 9.0c

Firstly welcome to the forum Mark.
In general your system seems to be fairly balanced and there doesn't seem to be anything that stands out as problematic. Are you running the latest version of the BIOS for your motherboard? What sort of case/cooling system do you have?

Well the temperatures don't sound too bad. Right I would like you to download and run DPC Latency Checker. Post a screenshot of it if you get any high points.

Fine. Leave it running for a while and try using different programs etc to see what impact they have on it.

Well that's your problem then, certainly.  :o What you need to do now is find the solution. It could be software that is running in the background. Or it might be some device eg sound card, LAN., etc. Go into Device Manager and see what you cna disable that won't impact on the actual running of the computer. If that stop the problem then enable them one at a time until the trouble returns and then you have you culprit.

There could be many reasons for that but don't get sidetracked just make a note of it for later and continue testing.

ok i tried diable LAN, Sound & USB but doesnt solve the problem
then i follow an article instruction to completely remove nvidia driver, after reset on "vga compatible" the dcp was normal reading below 500 but once i installed nvidia driver, it goes back 8000.
now i'm trying to testing background software, i "end process" many thing but doesnt change the dcp reading

edit1:
i did all i could but it doesnt seems to get the dpc down, then i tried running starcraft2 and there was no graphic problem! i tried play it a bit and it was perfect! then i tried crysis warhead too and it was also perfect! i think the article of how to properly re-install the driver worked.

but dpc is giving fine reading while playing starcraft2 or crysis, but when i stop playing any game or load any program it shoot backs to 8000ns.
i guess now i'm satisfied with the current state, hopefully there is a new driver out from nvidia to overcome the dpc issue
