HDMI no Video or sound

HDMI no Video or sound
« on: September 30, 2010, 10:58:04 am »
I did search but a lot of what I found seemed unresolved.

GA H55M D2H MoBo
i3 530 CPU
Win 7
0" TV Samsung 40" as monitor

I tried VGA and that works fine. I then thought I only had DVI on the PC and tried HDMI-> conversion. No luck

I do believe this MoBo does not support conversion????? So I was told by somebody who had read the special notes.

However. Realising that I did have DVI on the PC I bought two cables and tried that. No luck.

So at this stage I have VGA, but HDMI just does nothing.

Sorry if I ramble. I am new to all this multimedia digital stuff ???

Thanks for any help

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Excuse me if I get it wrong but from what you are syaing you are trying to run a connection through an adapter is tha right? If so it will not work as it states in the manual.

Thanks for the reply.

I am sorry, I am still struggling between HDMI and DVI. My message was wrrr...wrrr..wrrr wrong as the Fonz used to say. I mean I do know the difference but I still get dyslexic about it. ::)

At first I tried a DVI to HDMI adapter, because the PC has a DVI out and I had a DVI cable. Then I realised that I had HDMI from the PC and bought a couple of HDMI cables. Still no luck.

There may be something about the TV. So I need to work out if it's the MoBo/my setup, because the TV manual is not much help.

Nick

Is there any way you can check it with a different TV?
Are you sure that you have the tv set to the right channel? Usually it is an AV one.

hmmm...no :( I have a monitor that has DVI but not HDMI.

I have the TV set to PC.....aaarrgh! It has a HDMI setting. I figured that PC meant PC, not VGA.

Thanks mate! All fixed.

Hey, no problem. It is usually something silly, it's just when you are on top of the problem sometimes it's hard to see the solution.

Just a grizzle.

When I use HDMI, the TV does not turn off as soon as it detects no signal. This was very handy when set to PC, because you could turn off the entire system using a remote that only controls the PC.

Given the actual content quality of free TV, I may stick with VGA unless I am watching something that matters. :)

Yes that makes sense. I think that you should be able to leave both cables plugged in and just select the input that you want on the TV at the time. ;)
